Accessories Made-for-the-EVO Car Mount??

I too am waiting for one made for the EVO. In the mean time I got this inexpensive universal one and it works pretty well. Can't use windshield mounts in California so this one is a bean bag.

HTC HD2 EVO 4G G1 Droid Incredible FRICTION Dash Mount - eBay (item 220596671558 end time Jun-26-10 11:50:30 PDT). The phone does vibrate a bit while driving on bumpy roads but not too bad. You do have to be carefull of not squeezing it too hard on the phone since it will push the volume buttons. And the parts at the bottom that hold the phone up when verticle do block the microphone but I always use a bluetooth headset in the car anyway. When it's horizontal you don't need them.

Just ordered one of these due to the positioning. I don't want to have to look down at my vents or my cupholder to try to use the GPS. Also don't like the big, adjustable arms that a lot of these have, and most every suction cup mount I've ever had ends up falling off the window with my device in it. The link above doesn't work anymore. so I just did a search for "HTC Friction dash mount". $17.99 + free shipping

You have to attach a disc to the back of the phone or case the phone is in to use the soundgate. If you're happy with that, it's kinda cool. You just need a flat spot on the dash to attach the other side.

On the plus side, the disc would raise the phone and protect the camera. I'm just not keen on putting anything on the phone like that.

I've got a question for those of you using the window mounts for your phone.

I am excited for the EVO because it's a phone that is finally big enough to use in place of my garmin. That said, I didn't care what happened to my garmin in the heat of the sun because its a pretty primitive piece of electronics.

What I am worried about is the heat issue. I know on the palm pre you could install a patch to warn you of the battery getting hotter than 40C. Just as an experiment I took my evo (which was already warm 36C) and set it on my dash in the sun as I was driving. I only put it in the sun for 3 minutes and the battery temp was already 41C. Keeping it in your window for long periods could really reduce the lifespan of the phone.

Anyone worried about this?

I have the same question, I just drove home from work and the battery got up to 52 C (125 F) ... now I don't have A/C in my car and there is a heat warning as well right now, so about the worst it will get, but tomorrow I will just power off the phone for the drive home. (I guess it could be worse, it hit this temperature sitting on the passenger seat shaded off and on, but I had the windows and sunroof open on the interstate, if I was stuck in traffic without the airflow, it would have been higher.)

I guess if/when proclip has an Evo holder ready, that will help, since my current mount (from my old phone) fits over the middle dash vents so I get pretty direct airflow from that location at least.

Out of curiosity, why would you not get their adjustable one? It's a great fit, can accommodate any kind of case and it doesn't become obsolete when you move on to a new phone.

Wow I just had a "duh!" moment ... when I got my first ProClip mount it was for my previous HTC Kaiser (ATT Tilt), and at the time I had looked at adjustable mounts, but due to button placement and keyboard slideout they weren't ideal, and there was custom mount for that model anyway. So with the new Evo, for some reason in my head I had still decided against an adjustable holder, but didn't actually rethink *why* Thanks for breaking me out of that mental block ... gonna go take a fresh look at the adjustable holders, the cost of the ProClip mount/holder for my old phone was definitely worth it. It would still be nice to have one designed specifically for the Evo, but I already have two car mounts (one for my wife's car, normally just use it on longer road trips since I have to swap the phone holder), so I can easily justify getting an adjustable now and a custom Evo version later, then I wouldn't have to swap the phone holders out to use in the other car either! :)

i found the soundgate mount somewhere and i dig it. I mounted it above my radio in a pocket and use the bluetooth for the audio. Everything seems great, i do have to say i think they should give more then one sticker to mount it cause i messed up the first time. Here is a pic

Nice! I saw the post about the soundgate mount, also, and decided to order.

The way you mounted your dock was EXACTLY what I was thinking of doing for my dock, but wasn't sure it would hold. You've proved that it does with that pick! Thanks so much for posting this.

Can't wait until my car is back from the shop to try this out.

Greetings everyone!

I just posted a bunch of new mounts that I tested with the HTC EVO myself. See them here: HTC EVO 4G Car Cell Phone Holders and Mounts

I have a few 2 more that I will be adding in the next few days - the Cup Holder Mount and the weighted friction dashboard mount - check back in a couple of days - I should have the pictures done for these soon.

All the mounts (with the exception of the SM428) have a swivel ball head design - so you can position the EVO either landscape or portrait on the fly without a problem. The SM428 has a ratcheting head design - but can still rotate a full 360 degrees.

They are in stock and shipping now.

Those look really nice. Once I have some extra money, I'll be sure to get one. Nice job.

Hi there,

I am still waiting for my car mount. It did not arrive yet. I will let you know soon whenever I have it.

I got my car mount yesterday, it looks very good and fit. It is strong and stable. I was just wondering that how is that possible just about $6 for such good thing compared to other universal car mounts.

I have not mounted on my car to check yet. I will let you know soon by photos of the car mount. it is just a little bit hard to get your phone in the mount.

I am very happy and satisfied with this product and stop looking for anything else.
