Help Mail and Gmail both active causing issues and cant deactivate either one

So I activated both mail and Gmail apps with the same account and I'm getting two notifications every time I get an email. I cant figure out how to disable either application. Running gingerbread on rooted phone

go into one of the apps and go into settings and there should be notification setting that you can just uncheck it.
