Root Main version is older! Update Fail! in HBOOT

HI all,
I am hoping that someone can help me. I have an unbranded and unlocked HTC Hero that I am trying to flash the stock firmware onto. I have downloaded RUU's from both HTC site and from shipped roms. I have made a goldcard using GoldCardTool and I have extracted the rom.zip file from the temp folder and copied it onto the sd card.
When i start my phone in HBOOT i get the following:

HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO10000)
MICROP-010f
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.15.11
Aug 4 2009,19:43:30.

It finds the HEROIMG.img file and trys to load it. It gets as far as checking the file where eventually i get:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!

Can anyone help me with what is wrong? If i try to flash from the RUU in windows, the boatloader loads ok but it fails at the sending signature point with error 140.
Thanks

Welcome to Android Forums!

Unbranded devices shouldn't require a goldcard. Are you tryign to downgrade the firmware? What's the current build number of the firmware installed (Settings/About phone)?

I believe i am experiencing something similar to the user in this thread here however when I try to flash from the RUU, it gets just past the sending image section where i can see the progress bar appear on the phone and then at sending image it displays checking MID/CID and then fails with error 140.
