Help Maintenance update released.

So is this new update really necessary? A few things worry me. It seems it's adding more stuff I can't delete i.e. bloatware like the Blockbuster thing. I don't want that. I've had Swype for a while so no big deal there.

And someone says after this update, you can't root?? Is that true.
 
Yay.. more bloat I can't delete.. wtf..

May have to do my first root this time around.

They're always trying to think of new mousetraps (HBOOT access) and the mice are always proving that this is a losing proposition.

I guarantee nothing, but I will point out that we've heard many times in the past - This update will never let people root again! - followed shortly thereafter by the rooting procedure.

Root is your friend. Check out the All Things Root subforum above the Evo main one, and start with the three sticky threads at the top.

And you don't need to sweat fancier roms - you can have the same rom you're using now, just rooted, and delete just the Sprint bloatware - that's perfectly safe.
 
Pulled the trigger on the update and all is well... except for NOVA and Blockbuster. This is the first time I have seriously considered rooting my EVO. Might be time to take the plunge. I can't STAND bloatware.
 
Definitely not 2.3, lol. You may just he downloading the Sprint update that came out a few days go, it includes a few more bloatware apps such as blockbuster app and swype to name a few. I believe it comes with a scan now widget as well for 4G. Enjoy it! I'm waiting for a rom to come out based on this update.

edit: I don't understand why they keep saddling me down with more bloatware. I don't want this shit!

No scan widget. Just let's you scan from 4G settings allowing you to have 4G toggled on without battery drain from it checking all the time. But definitely a letdown not having a dedicated wigdet.
 
Strange issue. Unsure if related. After update, turned on wifi at work. Connected to router, but turns out the router is stopping at the cable company's activation page (never seen that before) and its not getting to internet. Fine.

Turn off WiFi, turn on mobile, and I can use the browser to surf web (tho initially was getting some Apache page not found error) , but Facebook, WeatherBug and others wouldn't update data. Some apps worked, like market. Hmmm need to try again and check other apps.

Only way I could get the apps to update was to turn phone off.

It was like some apps were still trying to use the previously connected WiFi connection - that I had turned off on the phone - because it wasn't working.

Will have to test tomorrow at home. Not sure how I would dupe. Guess connect to WiFi connection, turning off mobile, unplug router, switch back to mobile and see what happens...?
 
I've still got 3.30.651.3

The Kindle app is available to me. Is the game called Nova Beat or Nova Ball? Nova Beat is free.

Yeah I'm REALLY thinking about rooting. Always wanted to so I can use the custom themes that look super cool. But I need to find time to sit down and make sure I do it right. Don't want to rush it and mess something up.
 
For those of you who update your HTC firmware... expect your Sirius radio and Xiia Live Radio apps to not work on anything but WiFi.. This really sucks for me because streaming audio was pretty much the main reason why I got this phone... I hate updates that screw things up. I hope HTC comes up with a fix for this soon!
 
I'm surprised not to see a ton of threads on the latest update for the evo. I see it has Swype and Blockbuster streaming. Any idea where to find the APK's for this update so i don't have to switch back to stock rom just for the blockbuster app.

There's no need for a ton of threads for one update. We have a few, that's all that's needed.

Trading apks outside of their stock rom means trading in copyrighted materials - strictly speaking, that's illegal and Android Forums can have no part in that.
 
Does anyone know if there's a way to get an image of the old ROM (I think it's build number 3.29.651.5) so it would be possible to go back in case this latest update doesn't work out? I looked on Sprint's site but couldn't find anything.

Anyone having serious problems with 3.70.651.1?

Ever since the update my phone will keep saying on the weather location that im in Luxembourg District...lol heres a pic attached.... any ideas? Its never done this before. If i sync it will reset to the correct location ( Hayden Lake, Idaho )

Have you gone into Settings-Location? Make sure to check the boxes and allow it to find your location.
 
Bricked My Revoked Rooted EVO had to restore back to an older version.
This maybe due to uninstalling all the Sprint Nascar Apps.
But once it tried install it, rebooted my phone and got an unhappy Android face :( is this update worth it? is the 4G Connection any better?

well if you were able to restore your phone you did not brick it.

it sounds like the update didn't take. if you are rooted you should not be trying to perform any OTA updates from sprint/htc.

go to xda and download either an updated stock or custom rom and flash through recovery.
 
Sorry but I don't look at a forced Blockbuster app as an enhancement. Same thing with the kindle. If I wanted those apps I would install them through the marketplace. I have resisted rooting my phone but if that
