Help Maintenance update released.

After the update, my wifi signal isn't showing as strong of a signal as before. Anyone else having this issue?

Edit: If I turn the wifi off, then on again, it shows full strength. Same download/upload speeds though .... weird lol

I was going to download the rooted roms but i am little confused on what i should download or need to do.
ROM version, Radio Version WIMAX version

I cannot believe how many times Blockbuster turns on and runs updates. My battery has gone to ok got me through a day, to SUCK. Half life only after 4 hours.

I'd say don't do the upgrade if you can avoid it.

EDIT: you can go to the settings within it and cancel "upgrade movie service"

All I want is an update that fixes the fact that every time I am in Chicago, and lose the 3G signal, the phone doesn't drop like a rock from 90% battery to 25% trying to find a cell tower.

Ideally this will be stickied (preferably with software version in topic line)so that similar threads won't keep getting posted.

That's a good idea, I'll consider it.

Remember gang - when you see something that can improve your experiences here, drop a PM to your friendly neighborhood mods or guides (red or green names).

Otherwise, you're taking the chance that we'll see your idea - and have time to remember.

Cheers!

Anybody know if this'll fix the issue I'm having with my awake time being the same as my up time? I'd really like my battery to make it through the damn day. =/
Good luck. I have two batteries and they dont make it through the day. But I use my phone heavily. I could use 5 batteries in a day

A week later and 4G no longer slows my EVO down to a crawl. 4G is much gentler on my battery too (totally unscientific observation though).

Regarding watching Netflix movies...

Havent tried it yet but considering we have browsing capabilities I dont see why not.

Netflix requires Silverlight to run and I don't think MS has developed Silverlight for Android. Netflix will not run in Androids native browser.

I hate fact that those newly added stuff can't be removed (blockbuster update movie db for long time and globally app is hard to close without force quit), plus of course you will lose root if you install this.

I've now updated 3 Evos. No problems at all. Two users report that their Evos run a bit faster, but I think that's the placebo effect.

I am rooted and have no need to install roms and stuff like that. Will I be ok to install this update? My phone alerted me a few weeks ago and I just ignored the update.

i see people complaining about bloatware (ie blockbuster app, kindle app). I am not very tech savvy here so my question is what exactly do those apps that can't be removed do to your phone? Does it cause it to be slower? Use more battery? etc? What exactly is the negative effect of them being on the phone?

Thanks for the answers!

I've never seen a definitive analysis of what running (but never used) applications do to your battery, but I'd guess it all depends on how the specific applications are written. I would hope that Sprint has reviewed those apps for negative battery impact before deciding to include them, but who knows?

The bottom line is that the only way to get rid of them is rooting. I did it with my last phone (Samgsung Moment) and I haven't with my EVO and I don't notice much of a difference.

What I do know is that, from a full charge, if I don't touch my phone the battery drains very slowly, even with all those applications running in the background. When I use it a lot, the battery drains quickly even after killing all those apps with ATK. And FWIW, I have ATK set to kill itself.

But with a charger at my desk at work, one in my truck and one at home, my battery level is rarely below 50%.

I just got an OTA update it added a few new apps but what else was it for? also it corrupted my sd card. Take your card out before you run the update.....

For the list of changes, see first post in this thread.

SD card corruption happens - running your phone without one can cause apps to fail, maybe even the whole update.

Search the Evo forums for SD card, SD card failure - if that fails, use google like this: androidforums evo "sd card" problem

If I'd had time, I'd have just linked some of those threads here for you, sorry about that - but - we've got a lot of good help and such on that issue in general.
