Help Make a new photo album?

I have read the whole manual..........I have played w/ my phone for over an hour...........How do I create a new photo album so I can sort my 'all pics'

I was not able to find that info as well. I created new folder with apps like Astro/Linda and copied pics to them. when i look them up under photos shows into diffrent albums now!
I hope that answers your question.
 
You need Astro file manager or something similar from the market. With it you can create folders and move pics and other files around. Pics taken with the phones camera will be in the folder DCIM.
 
When in Astro looking at all your folders, hit the menu button, it should have an option for new folder. Pull your camera pics out of the DCIM folder and put them in the new polder.
 
or just connect to pc and make new folders there, I have many diff folders for pics and they all show up in phone gallery fine

so I place the new folder at DCIM/New Folder? ... example ...
DCIM/Family photos
 
i can't find a way to move downloaded pics from my SD card to my internal storage and get them to show up.

i can move them from internal storage to SD card but not vice versa
 
FYI ...

Using Astro, photos are stored in the following location:
/emmc/DCIM/100MEDIA/

I was not able to get my Incredibles internal memory to recognize new Albums by creating folders. I tried making them in DCIM folder, then in the 100MEDIA folder. The phone always groups all my folders together and shows them in two default albums ... "'Camera shots' and 'All photos'.

Though, it does seem to see folder (albums) on the SD card. I have a app called Beer which places pictures of beers on the SD card root in a 'Beer' folder. And I see that under the Photo app as SD card>Beer (album name). Though, Astro will not allow me to move folders from the internal memory to the SDcard. I guess I will have to use my PC to move them =(
Too bad I left my USB cable at home.
 
I have finally figured this one out. You *can* create a new photo album with Astro on the SD card. I have *not* figured out how to do this on the HTC Incredible itself with Astro, but I have using a PC.

Album names on the SD card must be in the ROOT DIRECTORY of the SD card.

That is: f:\album_name where f is your drive letter for the SD card when the Incredible is attached to the PC in drive mode. (There's no reason this wouldn't work on a Mac either).

I also know that when in drive mode, you can make a new folder in the "root directory" of whatever drive your Incredible is called and that will show up in photos as an album on your phone, but I cannot figure out how to navigate to it via Astro when disconnected.

Disregard all the other messages (or weblinks) talking about putting the folders in \DCIM\100Media or \Camera. The Incredible won't see 'em there.

It *will* see the images, whereever you have them stored, but it won't understand your album hierarchy unless you store the images in directories as I have described above.

Maybe somebody can write a better app, but that's what we've got right now.

After a little exploring, I've discovered that when the Incredible is attached to the PC in drive mode, what appears to be the root directory is in fact the directory \emmc.

So, if you use Astro to navigate to the root directory structure of the Incredible, navigate to that directory and if you create a new directory in that directory, the Photos app will interpret that as an album name (if there are photos in it).

Don't know why this isn't documented anywhere, but there you go.

To recap:

Photo album on phone: Create directory for album in \emmc
Photo album on SD: Create directory for album in root directory of card

You sure the internal memory setting works? I created /emmc/Family but alll my pics just show up in the "All Photos" folder. I moved them to the root of SD and the Family folder popped up. Would love to move these to the internal though so I can free up some SD card space.
 
Interesting. When I created an album by creating a directory on the phone while attached to a PC, that's where it put it, in the \emmc directory. I could then manipulate it (rename) and add photos to it, and even delete it using Astro.

When I tried to create the directory there using Astro, it didn't work.

Go figure.

That is interesting. I'll plug in later today and see if that solves it. Strange how it would work from one source but not the other.:confused:
 
After a couple of attempts I got my albums set up with Astro help.
I did not like the idea of having different folders on the root of SD so I created only one album (Say My Pics) and inside that one multiple ones (say Friends, Family) and they all are shown on my albums.

I just moved my folders from the phone root back to DCIM, then connected to the pc and moved them into a new folder back on the root. They now show up in a folder under Phone Storage. Not happy with this system though to be honest. I'll have to do some testing tomorrow to see what I can come up with.

Good to know you can do subfolders on the SD card Eclipse, but I'd really like to keep these on the phone.
 
As the OP on this thread, I am still working on this issue.
I don't understand the photo display.
does the 'line' delineate between phone and SD?
I have my camera set to save pics on SD, but I am not sure it does.....and when the pics are taken they end up above the 'line' on photo display in 'camera shots' or something like that and I can't move them.
I have NOT given up.
but this is the only challenge on my new phone I have not mastered.

When I *had* set up albums on both the Incredible and the SD card, there appeared two "lines". That is to say, the first listing of photos appeared as:

<all>
line
<phone album(s)>
line
<SD card albums>

If I knew how to do screenshots, I'd post it.

As to Topshelf's observation, are you saying that if you create one "album" directory and put all the other albums into that album, you will be able to drill down to a listing of those albums? That was the impression I got from the manual, but I haven't actually been able to test that.
 
This thread is more confusing than it needs to be. Here's simple steps....


  • Navigate to /sdcard (not emmc as someone above mentioned), in Astro File Manager this is the Home/Default directory when you first fire it up unless you changed it in preferences.
  • Create a new directory and name it Pics/MyPics/Albums whatever you want.
  • Click/Navigate into your newly created albums directory.
  • Create sub directories and name them whatever you wish (Work/Friends/Vacation/BBQ)
  • Move your pics into these new folders.

Now all your albums should show up in your photos app. In the photos/gallery empty directories will not show up unless there are pics in them, so you won't see an album with 0 pics in it.
 
Right. That all makes sense. Now how do I do the same thing on the internal storage instead? That's where we're having issues.
