Help Make a new photo album?

I've made folders and added pics to the sd card while i had it in my computer but the photo app won't recognize the folders but see the pics and puts them in both the stock folders........

Why can't the phone recognize the folders??????

I'm fairly tech. savvy but can't figure this photo app file structure for the life of me!!!!!

Is there a photo/camera app that asks where and what folder I want camera pics to be saved too?

Thanks

OK, new wrinkle here for me. I was just showing off my phone to a buddy, went into the photo app and ALL my photos were gone! 248 to be exact, and 53 of those were camera shots that I need for work and can't take again. Thank God I copied those to my laptop when I got home the other day, so no major damage done. But WTF? Looking through Astro it appears as though everything on the internal storage has been wiped clean. There's not a folder or file to be found. Hope this doesn't cause any issues.:(

Edit: OK, no idea what's going on, but I just connected to my pc and all files were there. Disconnected and everything is back to normal. Hope this isn't a regular occurrence.

Odd. Like DenverRalphy I just created a "Photos" folder on the root of SD while connected to my pc. Then I created 3 test folders with a few pics in each. After disconnecting, I checked the Photos App and it was working correctly. I then used Astro to create a few more and they also appear to be working. That part should be simple. Wonder if I'm just going to have to deal with SD card usage for now. So then what the heck are we supposed to do with the internal storage?

Topshelf, wondering whether you inadvertently either unmounted your SD card, or tried to access the SD card on the Incredible when still in drive mode, connected to the PC (or the Incredible somehow didn't clear connected mode).

In any event, hopefully it's a fluke.

I still think you can "create" albums on the phone while connected in drive mode, then use Astro, whether connected or not, to move files to those albums (which will be in \emmc) and keep storage on the phone, as you apparently prefer.

Incidentally, I have a 16g SD card --- I have no desire to put stuff on the phone if I don't need to.

Yeah, I really don't know if it was something I did since I've had this phone plugged/unplugged about 1000 times playing with settings. lol Luckily no damage was done, so I'll just keep an eye on things.

As far as creating a folder structure on the internal storage, I've finally found out what's going on. You can definitely create a master folder with a subfolder structure like I was going for. What I found out though is that the HTC Photo App does not "refresh" it's view of the system, so it just takes a quick nudge. What I've done is create a Photos folder on the internal storage drive while connected to my laptop and moved some photos in there. I then created a subfolder with pictures, unmounted the phone and it was showing the subfolder structure as hgoldner mentioned. Problem was that whenever I tried doing anything from Astro things never seemed to work. Well it appears that you need to simply connect the Inc to your pc in drive mode for the changes to update to the Photo App. Connect, wait, disconnect, and everything is now organized as you want. I simple refresh option in the app would be ideal, but this is easy enough, so it looks like I can now store all my pics there which frees up my sd card for mp3's and movies.

I am using a Sprint HTC Hero version 1.5 and I synced my phone to my PC (windows xp home edition service pack 3) and I simply opened the DCIM folder. Then I opened 100MEDIA, made a new folder and gave it my desired album name. I then right clicked and cut, hit back to the first page where it shows all the folders like DCIM, .footprints, .mail, etc. and I right-clicked and pasted. This new folder(album) will show up once you unmount and open up Albums application and it'll show up with the name you gave it. Hope this helps!!

Can't believe you can't get the app to update without plugging and unplugging from the computer. I tried force stopping and clearing app data, but no luck. Guess that is the only way to do it. Dumb.

Update: I rebooted the phone and it found them. However, it did not make a new album after I created a new directory and added some shots.

Should this be such a project? Shouldn't albums be something done natively in the app?

This is not working for me. I've tried several times. The folder I created, with pictures in it, on internal storage does not show up in the albums view or "phone storage".

What i have found is that you must put at least 1 photo into your new directory (created on the root of the SD card when using a PC) otherwise the album does not appear in the photo app. the folder is there in Astro, but it doesn't want to show up under the Albums portion. AND if you created the directory in Astro, and even put a photo in the folder (directory) it will not appear until you plug your phone into the PC. For some reason this then allows the new directory to appear. Really bizarre and NOT very user friendly.

or just connect to pc and make new folders there, I have many diff folders for pics and they all show up in phone gallery fine
Google needs to add the option to create new albums directly on your phone or tablet. Apple has this feature in iOS since version 5, it might work great but you still have the ability to do it. Having to constantly go to your PC is time consuming and tedious.

You can create folders with any file manager app...
