Maps 7.0.2

Officially report the bugs and make suggestions to the developers. Go back to the version that has options that work for you. As with any software, when they're able to iron out the bugs and release updates then you can update the app if you so desire.

If you don't report the bugs and make suggestions through official channels (ie; not the Play Store and not these forums), they cannot and will not fix it.

I see this in a lot of your posts. I wonder what makes you think we don't report those issues.

I have read through this thread. I have used Maps for over 2 years on my phone and for years before that on PC's. I have depended upon the integration of the Saved Places between the two.

Having tried this newest version, I have no problem with it. There is a learning curve but I see no loss in functionality.

I like it. But that is just my opinion.

If you've ever worked on the other end (be it as a developer, a system administrator, in tech support, etc), you'd want to say that in every post too.

I use just about all of the features, and honestly have not had much problem with the update. I was able to find everything I was looking for on the same day that I got the update simply by playing with the app and tapping on everything to see what it did.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure you do use 'just about all of the features', if you did you'd notice that no amount of tapping will find you what's missing from this update....

As a few examples:
I ride bikes at the weekends & frequently save a route in My Maps to follow while I'm out. Can I still find this? Nope.
Can I check elevations to see what kind of hills or descents I've got coming up? Nope.
I cover a huge part of the UK for my job & have my journey plans saved as Maps, can I still access them? Nope.
I could save a point on the map as a star even if it was in the middle of nowhere and navigate to it, handy for my work & when out riding. These don't appear in the app now though....
When I visit a new site for the first time it's very easy for me to highlight them on the old Maps & use my menu button to add as a contact. Now not possible unless you know different?
I used to be able to use Navigation direct to these contacts from my dialler/people app, that's gone now though right?
Sometimes I don't need to use Maps, I just want to use Navigation as a separate app or check traffic nearby. Not sure that's an option now?

Admittedly some of these might not be mainstream functions the masses use to the extent I do but they are a key factor in me staying with Android. I personally can't stand iOS so to have our beloved app 'brought in line' with the iPhone version seriously sticks in my craw. There's a few very good reasons why Apple is quite unpopular with some & yet Google seems to be going down the same route....

And FYI I've let the Devs know all this but I've also been monitoring the reviews on Play... Almost 7k 1 stars since Wednesday with another 30k 2 or 3 stars in the same time. Pretty epic fail if you ask me.

For the record I do really like the look of the app in some parts, I just cannot for the life of me understand why so much has been stripped out. And that's without even mentioning the numerous bugs that point to this being a very early beta....

I definitely miss the ability to go to Navigation directly from Contacts.

I see that there are some features missing. Doesn't make much sense to drop features.

I reverted about 15 minutes after the update, and shut of auto update, as mentioned first talk now maps I wont be updating until things get cleared up.
I dont use offline maps I just can not stand the reduced funtionality, lack of nav icon no zoom buttons, sure tap and swipe may work but in my (admittedly limited) experience it took too long to find your intended location.
And as to voice sure thats fine but in my experience, and others the voice recognition is terrible nothing more frustrating then saying navigate to xyz, and having the phone repeat back to you call (random) contact. do this for 5 or mins straight and find your much better off just doing it yourself.

I can imagine, I was not even thinking about people with heavy accents. More like people that just do not/can not enunciate very well.
My dad is one such I dont know what it is but sometimes just hearing him is enough to want to say something.

^Yup. My brother in law doesn't enunciate. I observed as he tried to make his phone do a google search. He had to repeat himself so he tried to enunciate, but he just put more space between his words rather than pronouncing the letters he was skipping. Totally different speaking style, but the progression reminded me of this:

Lol i worked in the south of england for a few years so i had to learn to annunciate to avoid the dreaded blank expression :banghead::D
What kills me about the average Englishman is that when someone doesnt understand what theyre saying, they just say it in exactly the same way but LOUDER lol. I duno how guilty americans are of that one :D

Fairly often:p:D

I read about an easter egg where you can type OK Maps in the search and it will save a larger section of the map (no idea where it saves to or how to get to it). Did you try this?
Actually that's what I was using - still much smaller than Maps 6 gives.

On the other hand, I made my first serious attempt to use the web Play Store today. That really had me doubting Google's sanity!

There are things I like about the app, but yeah it definitely seems like they took a mature app back to the testing stages.

One thing that bugs me is that multitasking with navigation seems buggier. Before, I could have my navigation on, switch over to a music app to change stations, and switch back to navigation with no problem. Now if I switch to anything and come back, it's like the view has been switched from my navigation route to just a general map view. I haven't figured out how to get the route view back short of re-entering my destination and starting it all over.
