The final pricing on accessories is certainly unfortunate for the Motorola Atrix. They could have done justice by the consumer and released these as the originally rumored $60 dock and $150-$200 laptop dock and not required a tethering plan to utilize the features of the laptop dock.
That being said I think I'll still go for the Atrix but not get the accessories. To a degree these accessories are gimmicky but they also add a lot of excellent functionality.
At the end of the day at time of release it will be the most powerful and best overall Android phone spec-wise on the market. Dual Core Tegra 2 1.0GHz processor mated with 1GB DDR2 RAM alone make it the Alpha and Omega of smartphones. Not to mention excellent resolution, large amount of expansion storage, 4G, HDMI, etc...
This will be me first Android phone jumping from the iPhone 3GS. I finally got bored with the iPhone and Apple's walled garden. Granted I leave one walled garden for another walled garden of MotoBlur. But I still get far more flexibility in what I want to do with my phone.
I fully expect after a few months to see the laptop dock and hd dock to start popping up on eBay due to buyers remorse and I can them well under market price anyways.
The only other phones I was looking at to this point are the Bionic which is a clone of the Atrix only for Verizon. I'd rather stick with AT&T and the ability to do voice/data at the same time and faster 4G (I'm not so concerned about LTE). The other two being the HTC Thunderbolt and the LG Optimus 2x. The Thunerbolt is too far of a step backwards in spec and the LG is likely a T-Mobile phone which has horrible service in the Portland metro area.
Despite all the news I think I'm still going Motorola Atrix.
