Help market gone...help!

Ok!... The download was successful and complete! What next?

Did you download it on your computer or your phone? If you downloaded it on your computer, you need to connect your phone to your computer via usb, mount it ask a disk drive, then copy the apk to the top level of your sdcard. If you downloaded it on your phone, it will in /sdcard/download. Either way, make sure you have checked the option to allow installation from uknown sources, then go find the apk using any file manager (Asto, Estrongs, etc.), then tap on it to install it. Once that is done, find SMS Backup & Restore in your app drawer, open it, and select the backup option. Of course, this is all only applicable if you've decided to do a factory reset, and want to keep you text messages.

I see this pic:

When I'm asked to click Backup it asks to enter a name for backup file... This I could name as anything I want, right?

Ok... I've backup the messages...

Reads like this:

Backup completed.
Succesful: 4001
Failed: 0
Total: 4001

What should I do next?

Is this the next step:

go menu-settings-applications-manage applications- under the RUNNING tab find GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK - clear data and then force stop. now go under the ALL tab and find MARKET - clear cache, data and then force stop. now reboot your phone and try the market from your app drawer.

Is the app drawer the area where "all Apps" appear? I presume that once I've done all of the above, the "market" icon should reappear there, right?

Okay, you now have your text messages backed up. You clearing google services framework data, then rebooting to see if you have the market. If it doesn't you should do a factory reset. Do you have appbrain installed?

Yeah, you'd need it from the market, unfortunately. I'm just thinking of how you can save your list of installed apps. If you have to do a factory reset, it can be a pain remembering what all to install. Your paid apps are tied to your account, at least. With appbrain, you could have made a list of installed apps, but without that already installed, it's not much help. Have you tried just deleting data/cache for google services framework, and rebooting? That *might* help.

I will try this step now:

go menu-settings-applications-manage applications- under the RUNNING tab find GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK - clear data and then force stop. now go under the ALL tab and find MARKET - clear cache, data and then force stop. now reboot your phone and try the market from your app drawer.

Well, maybe it will, maybe it won't. It's a shot in the dark, really, as we don't really know what happened. It certainly won't hurt anything, if nothing else. So, once you do it, you need to look for the market in the app drawer. You are correct, the app drawer is where you see all your apps, and can open them.

I get no credit for this...I read it in someone's post today, but it appears that the new https://market.android.com
has a full list of every app you download from the market. It does not recognize (that I am aware of) apps that you have deleted....in my case 5 pages of apps are listed.

go to the website and login at the top right...then click on my market account

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing apps I'd installed before on that list. I should have figured it would have a whole list like that... Sure enough, though, there's all sorts of stuff on there that I uninstalled ages ago.

ok just to clarify. your app drawer is what opens when you press the up arrow on the bottom left of your phone. you can then scroll up and down through your installed app.

the all tab where we want you to clear market cache/data is under menu-setting-applications-manage applications-ALL

these 2 places are different. the app drawer is for just using apps on your phone. and the manage applications is well for managing apps, for like clearing cache or unistalling.

have your tried this yet? you won't lose any data, apps or market links by clearing and stopping google services and market.

after doing this we would like you to check in your app drawer(up arrow on bottom of your screen) for the market

Good morning all...

So here's the deal, I've done the following:

go menu-settings-applications-manage applications- under the RUNNING tab find GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK - clear data and then force stop.

But when I get to this part:
"now go under the ALL tab and find MARKET - clear cache, data and then force stop."
I'm stumped! I went to the ALL Tab and then went to what is called the "Market Updater"... But when I clicked on it the "clear cache, data and then force stop" buttons were already grayed out as though they had been already pressed... What do I need to do now? Should I reboot anyway?... I'll try to do that in the interim while I await your responses!

Gracias!

Unfortunately, when I powered "off" and turned the phone back "on" the same issue appeared...

When I scrolled all the way down under the "Market Updater" tab here's the message I found below:

Permissions
This application can access the following on your phone:
* Default
com.android.vending.permission.UPDATE_MARKET_FAILURE

Does this mean anything to you?

SMS Backup and Restore is just one thing that will backup your text message. You'd need to reinstall it after the wipe, then restore your messages. Your installed apps are tied to your Google account, so you can reinstall them all after the wipe if you go to market.android.com, as Mr. Ed was saying. Beyond that, you're just going to have to change all your settings again, and you'll lose any app data. It's kind of difficult to do much more without the ability to use the market.

I agree with akazabam, time to do a factory reset.

market updater is not what we were looking for. its just called market, it should be right next to updater. if its not there there is nothing we can do except the factory reset.

good luck, the sooner you just do it the sooner you will be back to fully operational.

you can also try myback up. you can download the free 30 day trial in apk form from their website. RerWare Android&#8482 Products: MyBackup Pro (backup Android, Nexus One, Motorola Droid, G1, Hero, MyTouch, etc...), MyBookmarks but if you are not rooted you won't be able to back up app and data. which may be a good thing. I would just back up things you really need/want and then just go with a fresh start.

So will it wipe out everything even after I've done the SMS Back-Up & Restore???

yes it will wipe everything from the phone, your sms backup will be on your sd card. factory reset will not touch your sd card. so you just re-install sms back up and then just restore, it will find the back up you made earlier.

Ok... So you're going to be disappointed in me as I've been putting off this whole "Factory Reset" thing as there were other things that have me a wee bit worried. I was also concerned about some voice recordings I have stored onto my phone which I'm afraid will get erased as well (I sometimes use my phone to capture spontaneous musical inspirations)... Should I just save them onto my computer or will that be saved under the SMS Backup?
