Help Market no longer recognizes my Apps!?

jamor

So I did an ASTRO backup of all my apps downloaded from the market in 2.1

I did did a complete wipe, performed the 2.2 OTA, and did a factory reset after that.

After successfully loading 2.2, I went to the market and downloaded a few new apps. Those show up under downloads and update notifications come up when necessary.

HOWEVER.

I then downloaded Astro from the market, loaded Astro and then loaded all of the apps I backed up (and rebooted my phone).

Problem:

None of these apps I restored show up in the market under menu>downloads..

Even worse, when I search for an installed app that I backed up from Astro, it doesn't recognize it as installed and still gives me the option to download and install it even though I already have it.

This means that I will never get notifications to update for these apps which is important to me.

Is there any way around this - has anybody else run into this problem? I haven't seen anyone else with this problem...

I fear ASTRO is useless because of this and that I will have to uninstall all of my apps and just download them fresh so that I can be notified of updates.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, this is fairly well documented although I just found out about it awhile back also. It seems about the only thing that works consistently well is Titanium.

The paid version of Titanium has a Market Doctor which repairs broken market links once all apps are backed up. I'm guessing Joel probably put that in there for this very occasion. Might be a good way to avoid having to re-install all apps if you're interested in a long term solution.

Ahh.. I wonder how I missed that. Everyone touted Astro so highly.. but this is a fatal flaw in my opinion.

Good thing is I do have a Titanium Backup. I can't use it until I re-root (which I will do this week).

For now I'm going to uninstall all of the apps I restored through Astro. What a pain. Thank god I didn't pay for the full version.

I guess it's good for one thing - apps that you DON'T want updated like free Shazam 1.0, etc.

Yep, exactly. That and a general use file manager for accessing, copying, pasting, viewing, etc is all I've found it good for.

This works on 2.2 and 2.1u1:

Call *#*#2432546#*#* (*#*#checkin#*#*)
See message "checkin successful"
Reboot
Check the Market.
Repeat till it works (may just take a long time!!!)

Restored apps from Astro backup, now all OK.
