Root Market Problem

Firstly, my apologies for posting this in a new thread but I am absolutely stumped.

I've gotten all my google apps to work except the market. I really hope I'm not tearing my hair out over a problem that actually exists with the market instead of my phone. Error I'm receiving is "A server error has occured. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen." Any ideas or suggestions :confused:
 
Are you using a custom or stock ROM? 2.1 or 2.2? did you try reflashing gapps? or installing the new market apk?

When did it stop working? did you make any changes before; that may help figure out what happened, and point the direction to a solution. I think more information is needed to solve this one.
 
Sorry, should've clarified. I was running Froyo AOSP builds and had no problems. Flashed Punisher ROM and then I was unable to link my phone to my gmail account - error was about an unreliable data connection. This happened on 3g and WiFi. So I tried Velocity, same problem. Went back to stock ROM, again same problem. Flashed Froyo AOSP and sign-in was successful. Repeated the process a few times with the same results.

Today I flashed Punisher once more, same problem. Found a backup I made with TB of CheckIn Service (from original out-of-box ROM) and then I was able to sign-in. But market would crash. Installed new pre-froyo market APK from forum here (v2.2.6) and then the error became what I listed above.

I had a similar error with punisher when i initially installed it. However, it resolved itself after a reboot. When it came back on it took about 2 minutes to sync with the 3g again, but then I was able to re-enter my gmail. Haven't had any issues since.

I've waited for hours with no luck. All my data services work fine, Ive got 3G service. I've gotten gmail to sync after a lot of tinkering - market is the only remaining problem and this too has been going on for hours. Happens when connected to WiFi as well.

same problem here i was running punisher from going all the way back to stock to push all my updates then i flash punisher... my apps wouldnt install and it was saying network error try again later... i seen that i still had the old market and when i install the new market it was working fine... so maybe try to reinstall it and see if that works..
 
This is a bug in the android OS, its not because my rom or anyone else's. Seems like google is keeping this hush hush.

Have you tried going back to completely stock? then going from there?
 
Yup, completely stock right now. Only way I can get this to work is by running FroYo. Frustrating as hell. Definitely not a problem with your rom, but it does seem to affect any 2.1 rom I install.

I've tried a lot of stuff, none work...

Issue 8636 - android - Google sync: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server" - Project Hosting on Google Code
Issue 3477 - android - HTC Hero - can't sign Gmail account if user skips signing when initially using the phone. - Project Hosting on Google Code

I can use a workaround (youtube) and get my gmail account setup, but it still leaves my market broken and unable to download apps. This is an unacceptable situation.

Finished re-rooting my phone 'ye olde fashioned way (command line) - but was so much easier using linux (yea) than it ever was with windows (boo).

Now it is bedtime and tomorrows task will be to flash a custom recovery back on so I can run Drells FroYo build so I will have a functional phone once more.

Even tho this is a nightmare, it doesn't deter me from Android (yea) as an OS - especially when compared to other options - Windows Phone 7 (boo) or iPhoneOS (double boo).
 
I to am having the same problem to an extent. Whenever I attempt to go to my apps in the market I get the error message you described. I did not have the check in trouble but this has just started happening. I have tried all different versions of the market, all with the same result. Running punisher v1. But the error message started on aosp23.
 
Actually now that I think about it, it worked on punisher. Then I flashed aosp23 and it still worked and then when I went back to punisher all variations of the market give me the same error message when I try going to my apps.
