Help Market requres ATT's data connection

About 4 days ago, while my mobile network was turned off, EDGE (yea, no 3g in my area) indicator went from standby (check-mark) to up-down arrows, showing that it was downloading something. I thought it was OTA update of something and forgot about it.

However, yesterday I tried to go to the market and see what's new there. The design of the market app completely changed (looks xbox360-like), and now, every time I open the market, the edge indicator goes from standby to the uploading-downloading arrows even I'm connected to the WiFi and mobile network is off.

Downloading of actual software still happens over WiFi, however it does transfer some stuff over mobile network too. Is there any way to stop that?

no. the market requires the mobile data connection for some reason now. It does this on our evo to. I have not found the reasoning behind it but it may have something to do with the future carrier billing that I keep hearing rumors about (being able to charge an app to your bill)

Well, after I posted that yesterday i stumbled upon a rooting/upgrading thread. So i rooted my phone and put liberated_FR007 on it. At first market looked just like old one, but soon it updated and stated using mobile network too...

eh, i like google billing more.

google made another announcement today that something new is coming to billing in the market. we will have to wait and see.
