MASSIVE battery improvement

Last night I downloaded Green Power free.

It turns off wifi and 3g when the screen is off. As my phone is set up to check email when opened, this works perfectly for me.

Phone came off charge at 7am this morning and has used ONLY 20% of capacity. Normally by now (9pm uk time), I have under 20% REMAINING!

For those of you with battery life problems, try this. Best functional app by far for DHD.

I don't live in a 3G area so I set mt HD to 2G all the time and also only switch on WiFi when I need it (a few times a day). Not sure about this app but I can confirm that I can easily get a 2 to 3 days out of the battery like this - on at 7am off at 10pm, screen brightness on auto.

I'm pretty happy with this:)

....

How does that work if you are on a call? By that I mean, when against your ear the screen turns off via the light sensor. I assume the 3G/wifi don't get turned off if you are on a call at the time?

Dave I don't know actually. Does the phone run an active internet connection whilst connected to a call anyway? I didnt think they could do both?
Check with the dev - email will be on the app on the marketplace.

I don't know how this app works because the 3G and 2G switcher is not built on the API so devs cannot automatically switch it.

There is a defect no. in the google defect list, forgot what number it is but I am pretty sure it can't be done...

However, it could be turning the internet on or off though, which is in the API.

Only one problem with this...when your connection comes back on whether its wireless or mobile internet..everything has to sync..imagine syncing everything on your phone over mobile internet..ouch

After installing this app I got the phone to run down to 18% on the battery after 28.5 hours of light usage (few txts, few games of angry birds, a couple of phone calls and a bit of surfing). This is with Background data turned on but auto-sych turned off. I also didn't have fi-fi turned on at all or any live wallpapers.

Is the premium version worth it? It's not expensive and it has a "night mode" feature, which I am assuming turns all data/wifi off between certain hours, which could considerably increase the battery.

The premium version is so cheap that it's not even worth thinking about buying the lite version

I don't need this app. I put the HTC widgets for data on the homescreen and turn wifi and mobile internet off unless I need them. Battery has been going for 35 hours and is on 49%. I have made a few calls, played a game (for only a few minutes), listened to music for an hour and checked emails a couple of times a day. Much happier, though it is well, well short of the advertised standby time of 400 hours!

I would say the advertised standby time says "up to 400 hours". This would be with the screen off the whole time, and nothing turned on with minimal processes running.

If they can test it like that for 400 hours, then they can advertise it :\

Yeah, so you get a nice looking useless brick! I just wish the advertised specs were a little more realistic, it might stop people being so upset when they first unbox the phone.

I don't have a problem with turning things of to get more battery, but then I am very far from a power user!

Same... I mean, this is a step backwards. I've gone from a phone which has a proper push service (I get emails, fb notifications and so on when they are sent to me) to soemthing which I'm being told to turn off things like 3G and wireless stuff when my phone is on lock... it's incredible.

It turns off data, which you don't really need realistically when your phone is on idle.

I've noticed that when I unlock my phone, 3G isn't on anyway, it takes a second or so for it to kick in. So I assume the phone does some sort of limiting when it's idle anyway. It appears that way to me at least.

I also assume it does something but I'm not sure it does all that much, considering when this application is used it saves a dramatic amount of battery life.
