Root Max File Size Download Over 3G?

khumprp

Newbie
Something weird happened... I was trying to download a file (1.6MB or so) and it would not work no matter what. I could download it fine from my PC though...

Now, I don't know for sure, but I thought I've downloaded larger files before over 3G w/o issue. Does anyone know anything about a max download size, or file type restriction on download? It was a '.bin' file I needed and I was downloading from a website link.

I've have mixed results with downloading files using the stock browser, on both my Eris and my Droid X.

Using an alternate browser like Opera Mini seems to work better.

There is a setting in Astro File Manager of all places, that supposedly you can turn on (and should turn off afterwards) to help with this:

- launch Astro
- menu -> More -> Preferences
- scroll to the bottom of the screen
- check "Enable Browser Downloader"

Check it out and see if that helps.

Cheers!

I had the same problem when I was trying to download .596 over 3G, switched to wifi and it worked just fine though.

I've never had a problem downloading a file of a particular size but I have on many occasions not been able to download a file because it was an "Unsupported" file format.

I think that's what the Astro menu tweak does... I always forget about it until I've had a download fail a couple of times :p.

Kudos to whoever first found / posted that...I wish I could remember who it was (plus the Astro / Metago dudes themselves ;)).

Cheers!

It was www.dd-wrt.com | Unleash Your Router. I was upgrading router firmware and forgot to grab a bin file. Thought I'd just grab from my phone (1.6mb) and then transfor via USB.

Maybe it didn't like the bin file, I dont know. I will try the file manager stuff tho.

Thanks!

khumprp,

Hey, please let us know any of the above works for you... We don't always get feedback when things work and this will help future people who read this thread and/or search for this same problem.

Thank you very much.

Cheers!
