Media Device MPT driver problems

You need to pull the screen down where you access wifi, GPS and mobile data etc (for want of a better description)

Click on "connect as a media device" and then change it to "Camera (PTP)

Let us know if it works.

That is the problem. If the phone never mounts as either device, then this option isn't in the drop down menu.

Reading through the comments made me think about my old phone... The charge... I very well may have some left over Samsung junk in my registry. I wont be able to check until tomorrow.
If Device manager lists the phone, try manually updating the driver from its properties and point to the current S3 drivers (may need to extract them first).

Extract them how?

Went through the registry & deleted everything Samsung, including my cd drives... same thing.

Connected as PTP directly after reg edit... still nada.

Used deugging mode... nope.

Tried different cable... while in debugging & PTP when connected it tried to load as MTP device and driver loading failed.

Can't help, but would like to say I agree with you cntryby in thinking Android (or I guess Samsung) is worlds behind satisfactory in the field of computer-to-phone syncing/connection.

Hope you get yours fixed!

its Android...not Samsung...its the way that ICS (and above) handle file transfers

I did a complete factory data reset (after removing my sd card) and as soon as I plugged it in via usb my computer recognized it, loaded the drivers and connected. I went to my phone in"my computer" and looked around. Thought cool... finally.

Disconnected, plugged my sd card back in, driver failed to load. Regardless of whether or not my sd card was in or not, after another factory data reset, and several hours on the phone with big reds tech support... nada.

Went & swapped out phone, left it stock & tried it on another PC... nada.

Will try samsungs tech support today... we'll see.

Or maybe JB will resolve some of these issues.

Sure was cool when I had my Charge to take vids or pics while out with the family and be able to walk in the house plug in my hdmi and view them on my TV... no issues... just worked.

SIII is a nice phone but this sucks!

After the recent OTA update, I decidied to try again.

I've been using kies via wireless & it's like going back 10 years in speed.

Anyway...
Plugged it in, MTP drivers loaded, went to my computer, phone was there, browsed through my files... copied some stuff back and forth... alls good.

time for a cup of mud!

:D:smokingsomb::D

This is only in MTP, I haven't tried the PTP yet... I'm a fear'd to screw it up.:(

Well that didn't last long... took my daughter to lunch, came home and bam... "Hardware ID is missing"

But thanks to so folks out there that persevered... The solution was found here:

"Hardware ID doesn't match" error when plugging phone in - Page 2 - xda-developers

I can now plug and unplug to any usb port on my PC, using any ole usb cable, with no problems.

Stills seems like I will have to do this with every PC though, so is still a FAIL by Samsung though. (IMHO)
