Help Media Volume control not working with headphones

Syprus21

Lurker
When I play any media (youtube vids, mp3s with stock audio player) it seems the phone is setting its OWN volume for the media. I use the volume control on the side of the phone and I see the Media Volume status pop up and the bar increase/decrease but it has no effect on the actual volume. The media volume control works perfectly when there are no headphones attached.

This just started happening recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I found another post, and I'm fairly sure the Car Mode sensor in my phone is jacked. It constantly thinks its in a car dock, and therefore defaults to speakerphone on all incoming/outgoing calls, and has a default unchangeable volume with headphones plugged in.

there are a few causes of this issue (that I have read)

the more recent issues are a result of the 3.70 update and unless you are rooted, I know of no fix

there are also issues from before where the jack itself is bad. this is solved by taking the phone in to a sprint repair center or sending it to htc.

there have been many reports of cheap charging cables putting the phone in car mode or even a half car mode. the pins are not properly grounded and the phone believes it is in a car dock. those that have experienced this issue went back to the stock charger and the issue was resolved.
