Root [Merit] Can't access recovery neep pro help. ZTE-z990G merit

rsoard12122

Newbie
I need help from the pros.
I flashed recovery by way of anthony062991 with the stockrecovery.img
but when i reboot into recovery all I see is the ZTE screen and nothing else I have let is sit there for 10 minutes to no avail, no pun intended.
Nothing I have tried seems to work, I have flashed it numerous times.
The rom is still the original, I have rooted it by way of jcase
Can anyone help please.
ZTE-Merit Z990G
Android ver 2.3.5
Trackfone

Don't use it. The Avail isn't officially supported by CWM.

As for recovery, have you tried both recovery images? A stock Merit image file doesn't exist yet, so tread lightly.

the stock recovery.img from that thread is not for the Merit [z990g]

it is for the avail [z990]

here is the one for the merit

[merit factory recovery image] recovery.img

flash it like so:

place this recovery.img on the root of your SD card

Download terminal emulator free from the market
open terminal emulator

Type in:
su (enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (enter)
#
You should just get a pound sign at the end. If you didn't retry again.
reboot recovery (enter)
Your phone will reboot into recovery mode

I followed instructions in this link: http://androidforums.com/avail-all-...oot-flash-recovery-install-new-rom-links.html . I ran into the same problem & started over at step 14. Also look at post 113 & 114. These are what got me in the right direction. You may also want to follow my thread: http://androidforums.com/avail-all-things-root/591395-install-new-rom.html .

when I try to run adbg remount I get error
then I tried adb push su /system/xbin/su
i get not found?

you can't flash recovery because you aren't even rooted apparently from your last post.

you have to be rooted to flash a recovery image

and if you never got your su pushed to your phone, then you aren't rooted

you need to follow the directions here: http://androidforums.com/avail-all-things-root/566407-root-zte-z990g-merit-avail-variant.html

download this folder: adb.rar

unzip it

place the folder "adb" with the three files in it [adb.exe, adbwinapi.dll, su]

here on your computer: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\

copy the "su" file from the "adb" folder and place it here: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\

so you should have the "su" file in both the C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\adb\ and in C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\

then follow the directions in the jcase thread above. it's not that hard.

after you are rooted then you can flash recovery...

I was trying the command at step 14 from cmd from conputer, was I supposed to be doing it from the phone command line?

DID YOU DOWNLOAD THE ONE I JUST POSTED AND TRY IT????

the thread and link you linked to in your post IS NOT FOR THE MERIT

the one i posted just now IS FROM THE MERIT.
I just found this thread and your post while I had same issue your post helped I only have one question the recovery you posted link to in here does not have all the options as the merit one does and it does work well it did till I accidentally flashed the recovery using CWM ROM manager which BTW does not have recovery for the Z990g or any of the ZTE series. So my question is is there another version of this recovery for the Z990g?

I don't know what's going on. I have downloaded superuser, downloaded a program to check root.
I can delete any app i want I can do anything i want just about. So do you think I should just go through the steps of a root again?

I followed the jcase directions to root but I still can't get recovery access it just hangs at ZTE screen.
please help me out what other options are there?

Does anyone know what could possibly be the problem? What could be stopping it? I definitely have root access but I still can't boot into recovery I have tried cwm, the original recovery files for the zte merit.
Is it safe to do a total data reset through the settings->privacy menu? Maybe that will work? But I read you shouldn't do that if you have root.

Hi thank you very much for trying to help out, but I'm having a problem with what you said.
post 113 and 114 I cannot find on that page.
and when I run adb remount it wont let me but I am definatly rooted
How can it say not found or access denied if I'm rooted.
I think I should do a system wipe and start over but the only way to do it
is through setting..privacy but I read on some post that never do a system wipe if your rooted.
please help me out if you can. I don't know what else to do.
Are there other tools out there that can help out somehow?

I got it man thank you very much for you help, all I did was erase everything on my sdcard and copy su and recovery back on to it.
its actually cwm ver 5.0.2.0 I don't know if that matters or not.

should I have wiped the disk though, I thought one.three was smaller but now I'm showing it's taking up 161 of mb.
Is it safe to do system wipe now aed redo the one.three.
I have no space now.
