Use stayboogys easy root method it's on the forums find it, otherwise root your phone with adb instructions avaliable here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/27810-root-zte-z990g-aka-zte-merit/

Also bear in mind they are not assuming you know how to do this and that. They are assuming that if they give you instructions anything you don't understand about them or need in order to complete them, YOU WILL RESEARCH YOURSELF.

Sorry about the caps but Tapatalk offers no way of using bold type.

i can use either windows or ubuntu i have both but what do i do to start? i have not a clue on what to do first, for do i plug in phone to ubuntu and then open a terminal? do i download something? i need a very detailed way to explain how this method jcase did plz ty.

If you follow the link above a google search of the things you don't know would help you understand more or at least help you ask better questions.

I'd be glad to help with exacts that you don't understand but I'd rather do it in real time. Just click my Gtalk button.

In complexity of "doing things" to these phones, it goes:
AT&T Avail Z990 < Straight Talk Merit Z990G < Net10 Merit Z990G

The Net10 Merit not only has no "FTM", you can't flash an update.zip through the stock recovery (there is no option for it). The ST Merit you can flash a recovery (or a special rooted rom) via update.zip , then a rooted rom. And the Avail is simplest: T-Card then *code.

But, with the Net10 Merit, you're stuck with jcases ADB Root method.

So far.

you don't know what you're talking about.

i've installed stayboogy's roms and themes in my Net10 Merit's stock recovery menu following his directions.

it works just like it does on every other Merit.

I haven't looked at the Net10 version of the Merit but yesterday morning someone stated that their Net10 didn't have install update.zip in their stock recovery.

Since Stayboogy's files are all gone this is the only person who knows & has the files the new comers need.

my Net10 has three options

reboot
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache

ive installed everything using the second option

just like the straight talk merit directions ive seen

I never paid more than 2 seconds attention to the stock recovery. I rooted jcase style & flashed recovery.

If this is Stayboogy welcome back. Play nice tho.

"update.zip" on the Net10 Merit doesn't work, because there is no option in the stock recovery to flash it.

The ONLY way (so far) to obtain root on those phones is the "jcase adb" method.

The update.zip works on the ST version of the Z990G, and on the Avail Z990, the T-Card/*code is the fastest/easiest (Sometimes, you don't even need to T-Card)

i installed blue steel rom in stock recovery on my Net10 Merit so it must work

dont think one Net10 version different from any other

jcase is the only way to root that puppy. I see you already tried some of the one click root apps. You will need to factory reset the phone before doing the jcase method because you will get stuck on the step 4. (I think its 4) where it say file already there.

wheres a link to your post on the easiest way to root? i did mine thru jcase method which was not easy cuz im not as inclined as others but getting better and obviously i am cuz i finally figured it out but i wanted to know your easyer way bcuz i have some peeps that know nothing about doing this and need a easier route. ty :)
