Root [Merit] Help with Rooting ZTE Merit (Z990G)

I would be interested in looking at this phone, if anyone can give me remote access (teamviewer/ssh) I believe I could leave them with root when done.

Got root this morning, weighing my options for disclosure now, neutrontech was kind enough to let me remote in and confirm root.

are all the commands listed???

sorry but some of the instructions don't make sense to me, but that's because i'm really new to adb commands and syntax and some of the lingo you used lol

Yes all are listed, but you have to have adb installed and working on your PC. I do not have nor know how to use Windows, so I can't help with it if you are on Windows, but I am sure others are familiar with getting adb working with ZTE on windows.

They are generic, as long as you have adb installed.

The first command "adb shell" will put you into a shell on your phone, so the commands are actually ran on the phone.

alrighty then. i've got adb working. i ran a few commands earlier, like "pull /system" and got everything that was posted in the firmware post above.

so it is working.

how would one unroot it if they needed to

by deleting su and superuser, but that is not a guide I will be writing.

To run ADB on windows:

1. Open the command prompt (Windows button+r > cmd). Some drivers uploaded by the phone contain adb, or you can download android SDK.

2. cd to the location of your adb.exe "program". (ex.C:\Windows>cd c:\users\yourname\android-sdk)

3. Type "adb" and it should bring up your options used within adb.

JCase thank you very much!! GREAT WORK!!!!!
This was super simple! :)
100% - Working

Do you know/or have a list of which apps (bloatware) on this phone are ok to delete? I need to free up as much internal memory off of this phone as I can!

Thanks again for EVERYTHING!

So now that I have root access to the ZTE Merit how do I install clockworkmod on it so that I can create a nandroid backup?
Any help is much appreciated!!!
:)

okay, i've only rooted 1 phone before, & it was really easy compared to these instructions. do i plug my phone into the USB & plug it into my computer before i start the process?

I have tried many many times everything does exactly like the instructions say and my zte merit is still not rooted ! I don't know what else to do? Could anyone offer up and help or Make a youtube tutorial so everyone with this phone can just follow what you do. THANKS root check basic says sorry no root access and superuser says no su binary and the menu button does nothing inside superuser

i'm finding conflicting info on here from different threads

some say the have got it rooted, others say no.

but some never specify i they actually have the Straight Talk ZTE Merit, or if they have the ATT ZTE Avail

even though they are the mostly the same phone, they are not exactly alike.

someone who has the ZTE Merit on Straight Talk wireless, please chime in if you have it rooted.

Mine is a merit St phone I used Jcase how2 using adb.
That was the only How2 that worked correctly for me.

Note: if you had unsuccessfully attempt to root to fail with any of the 1 click scripts.
You will need to do a factory reset then run jcase how2 in adb

dude???? this was months ago...

obviously i got rooted...

and jcase's method is the only way for the Merit... i was the second to post success with it after he did the first root over team viewer.

why post in an old thread???

I can see posting since they are just trying to help. I don't believe a F/R will make a difference. There is people smarter then me that writes threads.

your fix may work, but not everyone and in fact most people dont understand what you just put up there. could you please be very detailed on how to do this? step by step as if we never done anything like this before.

Google SDK Tools. You will need to download & install it. Pay attention where you put it because that is the path you need to run cmd from.

What are you trying to do? What are the problems you are having? Let's make the answer for your problem.
