these are from brandonlee96 thank you for them

I am working on getting the Metro PCS and T-Mobile update too

thank you sooo much stayboogy you are awesome.

okay, so those .img files are imgdiff patch files which are useless for what i need...

has anyone figured out a temp root method at all??? or a pseudo memory root where a rooted terminal can be accessed where changes do not persist a reboot???

i really need actual pulls from the device.

the main file that i need is in the recovery.img called keys in the /res directory. this contains a list of keys that will be accepted in an update package. i've not had a whole lot of luck making the proper certs from these keys files (zte valet being a prime example), but i'm always willing to try.

but without a recovery.img pull i can't unpack the ramdisk and obtain that file.

and just making an update and signing it with the basic certs in the android repo are sure to fail as most manufacturers are using their own rsa keys. the zte merit/avail however--since it was a gingerbread device--zte had not made their own keys at that time and so the basic keys are accepted in its recovery. that's the only reason my update worked on the zte merit/avail

jcase got root on the device but got flamed so never released(not flaming him or throwing blame just saying he did and what happened appriciate all the crumbs that he has dropped) he did release this pdf

http://strazzere.com/papers/AAP-QPSI.pdf

and states that pages 41-47 were important to us for the ZMAX and that his method is pointed out in it but obscured.

They have gotten all the dialer codes to for the phone if you need those

ah...

that may just provide the answer for several newer zte devices... the ole dialer code method of gaining system rw access.

thanks for that. i'll get back to you shortly in a pm

No problem and thank you again. Anything I can do to help root this awesome phone just let me know. Even if you need something tested let me know I have the Metro PCS version on 4.4.4

I just found this pdf from Jcase to seems quite a interesting read too

http://theroot.ninja/PAE.pdf

page 36 talks about low hanging fruit a hint/crumb Jcase mentioned on the XDA Thread.

the best, easiest, most efficient way to root your device.

VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL THE NOOBS

install from stock recovery

Code:
1. copy to root of sdcard

2. reboot into recovery

3. scroll to your second option--"wipe data:factory reset" and press the back key (no data will be wiped but the update will be installed and you will be rooted)

4. reboot device and install superuser or equivalent
SPECIAL THANKS:

jcase--without him none of this would have been possible

I've tried this with the wipe data:factory reset. And it deleted everything on my phone (It factory reseted), but that's my fault for watching the video. But when I used the Apply update form SD Card it rebooted my phone as it said it would and then it said:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Formatting /cache...
Installation aborted.

It didn't root my phone! What should I do?! Pls help!

Hi just wanted to say thanks so much for putting this up here! I was looking at Android Area 51 forums to root my phone(friend suggested it) and I wasn't able to download any files. Worked like a charm. Hopefully I'll be able to use apptosd!
