Root [Merit] ZTE Merit Touchscreen Bricked after *983*29873283# code

just a quick update, I managed to find a way to put the phone in DFU mode while connected to the computer, the only program that can detect the phone while on this mode is the ZTE upgrade tool, I don't know if there is another way to flash it with another flasher/software
 
if you can get DFU mode then you can probably get it back.

Im just gonna post up a couple threads about recovering ZTE blades that were "bricked" using DFU. DONT TRY TO USE THE POSTED FILES. It will be for a blade, and not our phones. it'd be good to read. BUT, if you can find a DFU of the merit, you might get this puppy back.

well I usually found out when trying to do a T Card update:
1. turn off the phone off and I start by pressing and holding the Home, Volume + and Power Key, that will bring me to the Update from T-flash card SCREEN, after reaching verifying 100% it says "verify fail reboot" the screen goes black instead of rebooting. it was at this point when out of curiosity I connected the phone to the pc and it installed some drivers and I checked device manager and there it was, "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface (DFU) (COM36)", I will read the thread you posted and see what we can do from there, thanks for the help. a pic can be found here

just another update guys, seems that every turn we have a bump lol, so as I explained above the phone is able to put itself in DFU mode and now the flasher is able to detect it, but now I get an error "skip to armprg fail!" while trying to flash the phone, be warned that the files am using are the avail files since I don't think there are any from Tracfone, I have learnt that both the avail and merit are identical hardware wise and only seem that the underlying firmware is the actual difference. an image is below here

Update 2 for the night am happy to report that I managed to successfully flash the phone and is now a completely converted ZTE Avail from the firmware up, tomorrow I will update more on it tomorrow even the official ZTE avail recognizes it as a Z990 Device and it said there is an update to it. a million thanks to all :)
 
well it seems it gets stuck on the FTM mode screen now, but the Official ZTE upgrade tool said it had an update foe it so am letting it update currently, will see what happens
 
it finally booted, screen still not working but hey I think we accomplished the impossible I would say and that is to fully convert a merit to an avail, am exhausted for now tomorrow I will work on seeing if the screen can get fixed or not, thank you guys :)
 
Can you explain how you did it, because I have the same problem, my phone is detected as DFU and in qpst it is seen in download mode. I'm stuck at that.
 
use the link [Update] Save ur Bricked V880 and also the IMEI - ZTE Blade / Libra ROMs & ROM customisation - MoDaCo and follow the instructions there, you are close to flashing it don't give up yet, make sure you use the proper flash files don't make the mistake of using the ones that come with the flasher as they are for another phone, you have no idea how many times I tried until I got it and it flashed without any problem, be warned there is a really high risk you might brick completely the phone
 
so this is the end result of all the work guys lol, the screen is still not working but we accomplished something we thought "impossible" which is flashing the merit and getting it unlocked, as you will see on the below images, the phone is unlocked for my Local carrier DigiCell here in Belize C.A. and the good part two is that we have 3G (Hoax 4G just like AT&T back in the US lol), the second image is the FTM mode screen, it now works fully on the merit just like the avail. the third image is when my twin and I were successful at flashing the merit, believe me we tried so many times until we finally got, you wouldn't believe how excited we were :), now I have to specially thank 2 persons here, stayboogy and out of ideas who without there guidance we would have never ever accomplish what we did. special thanks too goes to Phydeux with the original idea back in January over at Android Area 51 for the help he gave me over at the IRC channel and I think he had the idea that the merit could get flashed to an avail. I also thank everyone else who is someway contributed to this story, it wasn't the results I wanted (fix the screen lol) but we achieved something even better lol.

Congrats on the conversation but sorry it didn't fix your phone. There was two guys working on this at Androidarea51.com I'd be great to have your input in there thread. I think out was called unlocking the net 10 without activating.
 
yes I talked with Phydeux over at Android Area 51 and we will be keeping in touch and I love to contribute in any way possible :)
 
can someone with a working avail/merit touchscreen compare this screenshot with yours, to get to this screen use this *983*24474636#
