Root Messaging--setting Handcent as default

I'm using Handcent as my default messaging, but still get notifications through phones regular text messaging. How do I cancel the original or set it so it's not receiving messages?

Just open the default messaging app and disable notifications

Is there a way to remove\replace the phones messaging icon with the handcent one(I just have it as a short cut on the home screen. BTW is there another\better messaging app I should be using other then Handcent?

Click on the Applications button

Once inside the applications screen (grid view)
Press the Left most button to bring up the menu and select "View Type"
Select Customizable Grid, Select the menu again and select Edit

You should now be able to drag Messages out of the bottom bar and drag in Handcent.
Once you have it the way you like it, press menu again and select Save
