You could push a different bootanimation.zip to where they are located on the phone. I don't have my optimus yet but if you have adb installed do this make a folder in the root of your c drive of your computer called pull. Then in adb type this
adb pull /system C:/pull
this will extract everything in system folder on your phone to the pull folder you just created . Look inside of their and find where bootanimation.zip is (it's usually in system/media) then push the bootanimation.zip you want to replace to the same spot.
Also if you can zip up your system folder (all personal data is stored in /data) and upload it to google docs and post the link. Google docs is the best place to upload things because you automatically get an account when you sign into the android market. Go to google on your computer and click more then scroll down to documents and then upload the folder it doesn't have any ads or download waiting times.
...uh, sure...whats abb? I am new to droid, have an opt. M and hate the splash screen AND sound. willing to try anything I can figure out, and some I cant.
all help is appreciated......
bootanimation.zip is not the splash screen. It is the android animation that appears after the metropcs splash screen and "hello, hello, hello" sound.
To change the actual splash screen it needs to be done at the firmware level. We need a custom firmware which someone looks to be in the process of working on.
