min and phone number isnt the big issue here that is easily reprogrammed. the more serious issue is here the nv file which holds your imei/esn number once thats gone theres no way to put it back, i got a buddy that had it done to his gs3 and we tried everything to get it fixed but nothing. i checked on xda forums and they all agree people should do a backup of their nv file or else consider your gs3 a really expensive paperweight.

I just saw a nv file or whatever it is under the network settings & subscriptions. There are 2 settings: nv & nuim/sim, or something like that.

Just a fyi for anyone who thinks it doesn't do anything - When the phone reboots, in blue text, it states that it was doing something with the modems. There were two lines.
 
Ok guys until shabby figures out how to save it externally heres another solution i came across this on xda forums they were sharing ways in how to back your nv full and restore it manually if anything should happen.

the app i was interested in was no longer available so found it uploaded by another member called mrmako777 which is a well known contributer

its called the nvitem generator basically all we do is find our imei/esn on the back of the battery on our phone type it there hit generate and bam generates a nv file to push back into our phone just incase something bad happens.

i will say this now my norton did delete the file for false positives meaning alot of anti-virus programs will think its malware. dont worry ive spoken to the creator of the app his name is oriax123 hes a cool guy and assured me its all false positives. seems the packer he used to pack his program to protect it from being cracked and changed around is driving av wild. but i just tried it i excluded it from my norton and its working perfectly. if u dont want to to try it its ok you dont have to. but i would never share anything without trying it and trust it.

Well I already had to use my nvbackup,yesterday I lost my 4g testing out all three ROMs and for some reason I lost my 4g I did everything to get it back and no go so I called metro and they transfer me to a tech to try and reprogram my phone it didn't work, so they told me to take it to my local cooperate office, I had forgot about the nvbackup i did earlier that day lol so from my phone i went to terminal and type in Su enter then reboot nvrestore and it automatically took me to twrp i click on my backup ROM it rebooted and bam I got my 4g back that nvbackup is really a life saver. ;)
 
It worked for me using stock rooted ROM. I got mine from Amazon though, but I still don't want have to ship it back. So thanks for the heads up on this.

OK let me see if I got this down right. I make a backup of the ROM that I made the nvbackup on & save that backup no matter what. & that's the one that will have the nvbackup saved. That about right?

thanks pnizzle. glad to see you over here from the esteem. LOL I retired mine also.....:o lol well it actually was forced retired when I dropped it in cooking oil at work.
 
I am trying it through emulator, and I typed in su... enter
then typed in reboot nvrestore
and it automatically took me to the Samsung Galaxy S III and it has stayed there for awhile now.
I am pulling the battery, power on...back to Samsung Galaxy S III screen forever. Pulled battery again
Now using buttons to boot into recovery
Restored a backup :afraid:
Thank God I am back.

Why'd you type "nvrestore"? Was your radio wiped? Doing so without needing to could bring bad news. Did you mean to make a backup? It's" nvbackup ".
 
This was by far the most valuable piece of info ive ever read, I had an issue where I flashed a rom and flashed a restore back to stock and I lost phone and text. Luckily I had nv backup I went into terminal and did reboot nvrestore and it came back. This info should be posted in every roms op. Thanks

nand is the chip that holds all your crap, think of it like the hard drive with windows and you have /system which is like your windows folder, program files is like /data. the nvbackup gets saved to your hard drive in a place you cant get to, nandroid is like doing a windows backup it saves select parts of your nand.

Hi everyone,

I tried my 4g was not working so I've tried restoreing my nvbackup (backed up when my 4g was not working) but when I try and restore the nv the phone just stays at the SGIII logo and it's been way more than a minute. any suggestions to get 4g back? I've went back to stock and factory reset and that did not help.

nah it safe im going to invite the app programmer here to explain some more info about how this app works. hes a dev for a cricket forum. pretty well respected.
 
Just a quick question,does this have to be done every time I flash a new rom?
