Root [MetroPCS] [GUIDE]Using KDZ to get back to MS50010i firmware

Choose a Firmware from here:
MetroPCS: MS50010i_00.kdz

Programs to convert and flash firmware: KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip
Device drivers: LGUnitedMobileDriver_S50MAN310AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.1 0.1.exe

How to get into emergency mode:
Powered off the phone, press and hold volume up and connected the usb cable.
To get out of e-mode, pull battery (do not do this while flashing firmware!)

Before flashing firmware, please make sure your battery is well charged. Flashing does not charge your phone, and flashing can take up to 30 minutes.


Instructions:
1. Install phone drivers (phone drivers may already be installed so skip if your computer reads your phone)
2. Install msxml.msi
3. Disable antivirus software
4. If the file you downloaded ends in KDZ, skip to step 12
5. Open UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
6. Wait for the program to open
6. Look for "Encrypt cab file to kdz file"
8. Click the folder icon
9. Choose the location of the cab you downloaded for LGVM720 firmware
10. Encrypt cab -> kdz Program will freeze up. DO NOT EXIT until program says Done!!! Otherwise it won't finish converting.
11. Close program
12. Open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
13. "Type" choose 3GQCT
14. Choose in "Phonemode": Emergency
15. Click the folder icon and choose the kdz file that UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe just made.
16. Click Launch software update and enjoy!

If you are stuck in a bootloop, do this (it will factory reset by following this):

That's for back up in case you need it I would do the 10i, root, ota rootkeeper, temp unroot, update, then rootkeeper method
 
My phone screen shows download mode and the LG software says not responding in the Window title bar...... It had been unpacking KDZ for half an hour.. not sure what I should do.
 
Heads up, if you hit Software update, and it says Not Responding at the title bar while Unpacking KDZ, it has crashed and nothing is happening... I'm not sure why it crashes everytime I try. Antvirus is disabled. If Rukbat's root link / method was a little more thourough, I would try to root in linux....
 
When i went to the posted version of 10i i lost the regular camera function..it would only show the front camera..i hit the swap camera and the settings changed but still only showed the front camera.
 
wooohoo!!! im back to 10i firmware, there was a weird log though on that KDZ_FW_UPD.exe program, some people think it was just an error,To avoid all confusion... you should let it run its course.. it goes up to about a count of 95, after that it will say finish and your phone will reboot and your back on firmware 10i.

I've done everything step by step in the guide, but the launch software program just tells me there's an error unpacking the .kdz file.

Not sure what to do now.

Try again. Might need to re download the KDZ file. If on win 7 or 8 run as administrator. Make sure to disable antivirus. Close all running non-essential programs.

I've already tried redownloading the .kdz file. I'm running it as administrator, no antivirus running. It does the same exact thing:

Launching SW update
Unpacking KDZ
KDZ file extraced
Extract file error
====FINISHED====

And then it leaves a .cab file on my desktop. I don't get why!!
 
KDZ is having problems extracting the file (or doesn't like the check sum). This is before it even connects to your phone so it's a PC side error. You got enough hard drive space? Stable build (not running any OC)? Make sure you have the prereqs installed (msxml, but this is already there is you're on 7 or up). Try downloading KDZ again. Might want to try it on a different PC.

The .cab file is part of what it extracts.

I definitely have enough hard drive space and am on a stable build. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. I don't have another computer I can do this on. All the prereqs are installed. I even uninstalled my drivers and installed the ones given.

I've redownloaded the same KDZ twice now and it hasn't changed a thing. Is there anything else I can do?
 
man, it seems complicated to root this phone. well step one. it says

Choose a Firmware from here:
MetroPCS: MS50010i_00.kdz

am I suppose to extract this file, or just run it? what am i suppose to do in this step?

When I get home I'll upload my MS50010i_00.kdz file that I used to flash. Maybe it's the source file you downloaded got corrupt. Give me an hour or so.

Alright. Thanks man! I even tried using another 10i KDZ i used last night to restore my phone from softbrick. I must've had it software update by accident though.
 
Looks like uploading it would have taken me forever so I just downloaded it fresh from OP to test it and it works fine. Looks like something is up with your computer. Only suggestion I have left is to try it on a friends pc....

Below is proof, I didn't have my phone connected but it extracted no problem.
