Unfortunately you will have to wait. At least for changing the Metro splash screen which can only be done with custom firmware that has not be release yet.

You can however get rid of the "hello, hello, hello" sound by choosing a sound clip in mp3 format, renaming it to PowerOm.mp3 and then placing it in the /system/sounds/poweron/ folder thus overwriting the "hello, hello, hello".

or just by renaming that file, then you will have silence at bootup -- which is what my wife wants at work. If she turns her phone on, she doesn't want everyone around her knowing that. You don't have to replace the mp3 file with anything. The animation will still show, but there won't be sound clip playing while the phone is booting up. Nobody needs to know your business.

Hello all,

I have an .Mp3 file that I wanted to replace for the Metro's stupid "hello hello hello..."sound.
I already placed it on my SD card and I renamed it to PowerOn.mp3, just like you guys said, but when I try to move it to /system/sounds/poweron folder it doesn't show up, I click on Paste and it goes like if it was pasted but it didn't. I deleted the original metro PCS sound and tried copying, moving, etc..but nothing happens.
Now the sound is gone, no more hello hello hello but I am unable to paste any sound on the powerOn folder, please help!

I tried with different files, like the android animation that someone posted before, I did the same thing with this, I downloaded the .Zip file, moved it to SD, renamed it to bootanimation.zip and then pasted it to that system/media folder and still nothing happens, it seems like I can't move or paste any file.......I'm using the Root Explorer and I have Super User permissions.

On the top right corner of Root Explorer you have to tap and change from "Mount R/O" to "Mount R/W"

I did, it was already on R/W. when I clicked on Paste a message pops out saying file was pasted but it was not, it doesn't show up, and when I tried moving instead of copying, file disappears, it disappears from my SD card and it doesn't get moved to the new location....I have no idea where it goes.

Place it in /data/local folder. Android system scans both /system/media and data/local for a bootanimation.zip

still..nothing happens, I can't move or copy/paste any file...I don't know why is this happening? :(

Double check if Root Explorer is getting su permissions, if not go to Superuser and grant it, if you can get it maybe you have to unistall/reinstall RootExplorer.

yes it is, I will now try uninstalling/reinstalling it and see what happens..

I downloaded the "free" version from 4shared(by following the steps someone mentioned here before), IDK if it is because of that and I have to pay for the original from the android market...I will try reinstalling it and if issue persists then I will be forced to pay :(

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the same version that I found on 4shared, and the problem persisted, so I bought the original version from the market and installed it and it is working fine. Now I am able to mount as r/w.

the 4shared copy version is fraudulent, it doesn't let you mount as r/w.

Glad you solved your problem. Anyway I think for the benefit Root Explorer worth it's price.

Hey guys as same of you already know - Root explorer is no long working with the privilege of (r/w) and (r/o) on some specific phones like Metropcs LG Optimus M, after the android self update 2.2.1,
Hey guys so we need to find another substitute app or hold for a root explorer to update on this issue, if we get all together and sent email and put comments like I did (the above paragraph) on the android market that may help to expedite any answer from the root explorer developer time :(

The update is just that. A self decided update, as in it's not forced on to you by means of OTA.

As far as I could see that update to 2.2.1 did nothing but break the ability to root the phone. Seriously, someone show me a change log that says 2.2.1 had any significant changes to it.

Which is why I searched day and night using little bits of info from google searches to come up with my solution to rolling back to 2.2.

It's not a problem of Root Explorer at all. Root explorer was made to work with r/w privileges when your phone is rooted so you will never get an update for fixing that from the developer (after all it's not his fault). If you update to 2.2.1 you only have 3 options:

1- Get it back to 2.2.0 with the andy's method
2 - Wait for z4root or another app/method update to get root on 2.2.1
3- Stay unrooted forever

anyone got a droid sound clip to put in there?

I'm thinking about replacing mine with a droid sound and then see if I can put a droid boot animation instead of the metro one.

OK, so I managed to replace the default android animation with a custom one by simply downloading the custom animation, renaming it to bootanimation.zip and placing it into the /system/media directory on the phone. I didnt see any bootanimation.zip file to backup/replace so I just copied the custom one over and rebooted.

Now to replace the metroPCS boot image.

Here is the custom animation I used.

Put this file: bootanimation.zip on your sdcard then move it to the /data/local/ folder with root explorer then reboot your phone.
