Root MetroPCS..hello..hello...goodbye

I sent it through email and downloaded it through my phone. In root explorer the file is under /sdcard. In cetain folders it can be copied or moved but when I try doing it in /system/sounds it wont let me. I click paste but there's no file. Am I doing something wrong?
You have to click the "Mount R/O" button so it changes to "Mount R/W". Then you'll be able to rename/copy/paste in that folder.

I know, I've done that multiple times but nothing... when I first tried I deleted the poweron audio file, /system/sounds/poweron there is nothing it just says parent folder. I've been on this damn phone all day between rooting my phone and trying to do this crap. I don't know what I'm doing wrong

If you were able to delete the old one you're doing something right. Make sure the status line says xxxMB used, xxMB free, r/w [Mount R/O] <- The button should be R/O and the line itself should have r/w

it doesn't say anything about mb. i've attached a photo to show you hopefully its clear enough. btw, could it have something to do with not being enough space in my phone?

That's because I've changed the setting to display free space. Generally it is hard to use up all your system partition. It's maintained separately from the user space that we use for apps

You are properly set to r/w mode though. With that setting you shouldn't have any problems pasting the mp3/wav. I doubt you're using anything larger than a few hundred kb anyway. Not sure what else the problem could be...

I finally did it. I unrooted my phone and deleted all root related files/apps and reinstalled them again. I think the problem was the root explorer the old one had a picture of a blue file, the one I have now has a pic of a blue file cabinet. I think I had a wrong version. Anyway, thanks for your help.

Interesting. Glad you got it sorted out though.

While using Root Explorer I noticed a folder called "bootimages" with 14 files ending with the extension .rle named "mpcs_power_on_01, mpcs_power_on_02...etc.

I believe these may be splash screen images but I'm not sure. I can find no programs that can display .rle files.

The file for the boot image is /initlogo.rle

i'm in the process of figuring out how to read these files and create my own. From what I have read so far they are BMP files with some special RLE compression.

Can either of or both of these files be removed from the phone without harming the phone? I just want the metropcs logo gone. I already did the custom android logo complete with droid sound (or sam kinison scream I go between the 2.) i want the phone to go straight to that without having to run the MetroPCS animation. Is this possible?

By the way, Thanks to everyone on this thread and the forum in general. this really is an awesome forum.

I successfully nuked the "hello hello hello" sound, but am having trouble customizing the android logo. I read that I needed to put the bootanimation.zip in system/media. I did that ,but still have the old android startup.

I am sure that I screwed something up..any ideas?

Make sure the new bootanimation.zip has the proper permissions. that's how you get it to work.

Im running reppards cm7 rom and when i open root explorer and open the system folder there is no folder that say "sounds" i tried adding one and putting a "poweron" folder in that and then putting a "PowerOn.mp3" file into that so its system/sounds/poweron/PowerOn.mp3 but it still wont play it. I set all the permissions the same and everything. Is there any way to add sound to the boot animation if there wasnt any to begin with?

Sorry for all the replies also make sure that build.prop is set to 1 on boot sounds
Hey Ghost, i don't have the boot sounds line in my build.prop. I'm using BobZ CM7 11-13 build. Can i type that line in? ( how would it look ) or what advice can you give me to do?
