Root [MetroPCS] [MOD] [Beta] SdCard Memory Hack

Well, I installed, and got a lot of storage. But, phone freezes, pauses, and battery gets hot, (and forever syncing Mail). After many reboots with no real change, i think I'll hold off for now.

(Maybe its the card? Does the phone cache on the card instead of memory? Was using a class 10 32gb high speed card, but as I saw from Nook Tablet modding, its the small file write speed needed to run os off card. Not sure if this applies here.)

Question: How to UNDO this mod? I tried KDZ but got an error message

Edit: Got it from first post. Used op’s utilities to go into recovery and flashed new kernel. Back to normal for now.

After using F6Utlities to do the SD Hack, my quickbutton no longer works, my home button lights up during boot, but doesnt function otherwise, and my status bar on the left doesnt show anything (no notifications, no apps).

I flashed a new kernel, and it fixed those problems, but I no longer have SDHack.

Anyone else having these issues?

I have this running perfect on i firmware, no issues, very fast... using a 32GB class 10 sdcard, 4 GB to internal right now...

Can I turn off phone, then put sdcard in a card reader and change partitions size using MiniTool (without format to keep all data), then insert sdcard and turn on phone again ? will work this ?

Did you try changing size of partitions afterwards and not have any problems? I want to increase my ext4 partition to 16gb.

Also has anyone here used GameTheory's Debloat zip after flashing this?

Also what is the best way to back up this hacked sd card? If I make a nandroid should I keep a backup on my PC also?

To restore would it just be making a new sd card that is formatted correctly for both partitions and then putting the nandroid on the new sd card and just restoring in CWM?

Also has anyone here used GameTheory's Debloat zip after flashing this?

Yes. It worked perfectly fine. Be warned though that the debloat is pretty intensive, and removes some metro applications that some people might actually like (such as the visual voicemail app.)

I have this mod working on I firmware with a 64gb microsdxc. I use Dolphin Browser and will frequently get a timeout error 408. It only has been happening since this new mod. i googled the error and they said it's about not sending request fast enough. Is my class 10 card very slow?

Can anyone try DolphinBrowser and see if they get the same error?

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks pressy4pie! Can't wait to see the last of those these insufficient storage messages!

I've re-read the entire thread multiple times, and tried googling elsewhere, but am still missing one important detail. At one point in the thread, you mentioned that although the mod will work with I firmware, the boot-loader must be E. My question is, how do I _tell_ whether my boot-loader is I or E? And if it is I, am I just out of luck, or is there a way to install an E bootloader in place of the I?

(My phone is MetroPCS, MS50010i, rooted with Kingo, with LTE2/recovery app).

You have I firmware. MS50010i. Just go thru with it although I thought they said to use saferoot. Not sure if it makes any difference.

it works on I firmware now, but does not work on 12b

Check op for updates guyz. Can root if you are on anything before 12b. also installs regular cwm if you dont want the hack, but want to install roms. Enjoy. i dont think ill be updating this much more than where it is at.

I know you've put a lot of work into your App, and I know I'm not the only one who really appreciates it, but before you wash your hands of it, maybe you could do one final release, F6Utilitiesv3 with the ability to make the SD Mod work with GT's rom in a simpler manner for all the new and guaranteed future users that aren't very tech savvy. That way it'll be your final gift to all us fans of your work. As well as having enough of us around & familliar with the process, you wouldn't have to be the only person everyone would need help from. Those of us familliar with it in its current form could shoulder some of the future burden of supporting your release, giving you more time to work on some other goodies, lol. Just a thought, because I for one don't mind helping anyone who gets stuck, as long as its something within my skillset. I actually just undid the mod so I can check out GT's ROM, I'm pretty sure I'll manage to work it out to work together after a little trial & error, but I've also revovered this phone from every brick possible, so I'm not worried about having to reflash numerous times to get it going, but many others will not feel so secure, so this thread is ALWAYS going to have questions when you're too busy to help, leaving those like me to try & step in. Just a suggestion, of course I'll always do what I can to help out another member, but I'm no programmer. Good luck with your next step.

OK, I plucked up my courage and gave it a try. ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY. Thanks.

What an awesome hack. My phone finally has all the apps I want and need, loaded concurrently, with absolutely no "Insufficient Memory" messages. And the install was easy. I installed Debloater at the same time, BTW.

Few gotchas -- possibly unrelated to this hack, but I'll mention them just in case. After the hack, my home button mysteriously wouldn't work, I had no browser (probably debloater's work), and lost my mobile data APNs. Everything else worked great. With no data and a Wifi network requiring a browser-interactive login, I had to use a USB cable to transfer files. Re-installed F6Utilities2, and used it to get to the recovery, where I installed gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip (google it). That fixed everything, except the missing APNs, which I restored by hand.
As a final step, I backed up the entire microSD (both partitions), a precaution against the day the current one croaks. Just used dd. Then on to repeat the process with my wife's phone.

Awesome.

EDIT: One additional problem since doing the hack. (This may be unrelated to the hack, as I have also dorked with other things.) My phone now apparently wipes the dalvik cache on every boot, so it goes through a slow (5 minutes or so) "Optimizing Application <n> of 108" sequence during startup. Even if this problem is permanent, and even if it is related to the SDcard hack (it may well not be), it's a very minor inconvenience compared to all the "Insufficient Memory" problems I used to deal with!

I had some of the same issues. Fix was to flash gapps and then clear cache. Now its perfect.

Hi pressy4pie:
Followed your instructions and upgraded two of three of our phones with very little trouble. Started working our third one, following exactly the same sequence:
1) Root
2) Aparted SD Card with 2GB FAT, 30GB EXT4
3) Download your F6Utilities2
4) Install it
5) Run it. Select SD Card Data Hack . Clicked to Install. Wait some time
6) Reboot.
Nothing happened. It is as if I never pushed SD Card Data Hack.

Looking at the .apk in my successful attempts, I am noticing that it is many MB (it is growing???) however, when I download the "HERE" link, I am getting a 300KB package, and after the install the .apk is 1.32MB. Is it possible that it got truncated at the server? Is it possible that something got corrupted over there?

Thanks for any help!

Huh. I'm not sure. Grab a logcat for me if you will

pressy if you look into my article on getting sdhacks to install on 12b update it will infact make it useable on 12b the key is to do the root glitch on 10b using ota rootkeeper and make sure you use aparted before 12b.once you reroot in 12b you can use your app to force the sdhacks fine.issue ive found atm though is what others have said.while having all this installed i tried gts rom and theres something in it that not only breaks the sdhack but it glitches it for further use even if you downgrade.possibly a change in kernals or whatnot.me and others would like your expertise in this cause gts roms pretty awesome but without sdhacks theres always the possibility of insufficient storage space.i miss simpilar times when there was apps2sdguitremor or whatnot that could use your internal and switch perfectly with external if you ran out of space and nomatter what custom rom and stuff you used,it always worked with it.i think sdhacks could be the next one of those.i know its not easy to code, but i know between you and GT and a few others you guys can make it work mad <3 to you all

It needs a special kernel so it probably well but work with gt without a repack

Will be happy to do so if you can tell me what that means (I will be happy to look at any logs too to see if I can determine myself what it is doing- I just do not know where to find them). Can you at least confirm for me the sizes of the download package and the size of the .apk after it gets unpacked? that will tell me if I am barking up the wrong tree...
Thank you very much for your time!
Also- I strongly suspect that perhaps the source of the issue is me ignoring your advice and not factory resetting the F6... Perhaps there is interference from an existing app that my daughter loaded in there. I do see about 250MB free, so I doubt it is space, unless F6Utilities needs a large amount of temporary space which it runs out of, if the internal memory is not completely empty- but then, I did the same for my other two phones, and those were fine, although this one has less free space than the others.

It may have been my fault. Are you connected to the internet on your phone? The new app is much smaller and downloads the entire set of files

Yes, the phone is connected to the internet, and I downloaded your package directly on the phone. I am just trying to understand what happened. Sounds like the right thing to do is to really heed your advice, backup all that needs to be backed up, factory reset, follow your procedure, and then restore (at least .apk's). If that still does not work, then we can talk more... Thanks again!
