Root [MetroPCS] [MOD] [Beta] SdCard Memory Hack

I installed the hack with SanDisk 64gb microSDXC Class 10 that I got from Amazon. I still get slow down like opening the camera app, timeout 408 on browsers, and when installing app or updating apps my phone is unusable as it is downloading and installing.

Do you think the SanDisk Extreme 64gb microSDXC Class 10 would be that much faster?

Also when I boot up the phone, is it normal to say LinktoSD for a little while in the notification bar? It disappears after a bit.

This is about the fastest rated micro card I could find:

US Seller 32GB Micro SD SanDisk SDHC MicroSD Class 10 32 GB Extreme Plus 80MB S 619659096458 | eBay

How fast does your card benchmark? Mine gets 27MBs read and 7MBs write....I have the Sandisk 32GB Ultra (not the Ultra Plus) card, which is suppose to get around what I mentioned above.

I used A1 SD Bench for benchmarking.

I did not run any benchmarks.
It is a Patriot 32GB class 10 (TigerDirect.com).
I am on firmware 10i, running Nova Launcher Prime 2.3.
I flashed GT debloatware and have Disable Service to speed up a little more.

i have not tried the sandisk ultras but im suprised they work in this phone since they are mainly for camcorders and such.i try to stay away from sandisks and ultra anything though but i used my microsdhcs in my psp and it didnt support ultra sdhcs.btw if you try to say microsdhcs dont work in psps keep in mind i helped the psp mod community and yes they can and are a better alternative than pro duos.i think sony later came out with the m2s that supported these microsdhcs in fact but sony is a ripoff and you can get a better alternative than those m2s,and they ripped that idea off the hacking community since i wrote the first guide on doing that before the m2s ;)-

Both cards are ultra high speed 1 (or class 10) so the minimum read/write is only guaranteed for 10 megs a second on fragmented data. I don't think you'll get noticeable improvement. The cheap card I just got doesn't lag.

It's not normal for LinktoSd to show up. You shouldn't be running that with this mod. It would complicate things. Choose one or the other. I just got my new card and decided to go linktosd instead. I don't experience noticeable lag and never get timeouts in chrome.

... it pops up at the most inopportune time, and I'm going to accidentally hit yes one of these days while texting.

I did EXACTLY THAT. I saw it just too late to stop what I had done... lost root.

Now here's my bigger problem... I initially used kingo to root, so i downloaded a newer version of that and tried to re-root, no go big time. I know, im lucky nothing horrible happened to either my pc or phone. But now, without downgrading back to previous fw, what am I to do? I want to always be able to have the latest fw, for obvious reasons like security and features, so how do i do this now? Btw, anyone in Sacramento, CA that is well-acquainted with this, id buy ya a coffee (or a meal) for help in person, since after reading this site the last day or so has my head swimming...

And of course, then on tpp of all this, i want to use this sd hack because its bogus to always get "out of storage' errors when updating apps from play store.

You have to downgrade to 10i with kdz and reroot. I don't think sdcard hack works with 12b? I may be wrong haven't kept up with this thread since I installed gametheory's rom. I also saw a way to disable the ota update popup somewhere here in a thread, if you want to stay on 10i. If you want to go to 12b without memory problems you can install gametheory's Rom and use link2sd. It takes a bit of work and a lot of moving things around and a purchase of the pro key of link2sd to get a setup that never throws memory issues. I mean if you don't have a ton of apps it's okay. But if you're like me with like 200 apps, I had to be able to link app data with pro and convert some system apps to user apps and link them and fix permissions... it was a bit of a headache. But in the long run, having this custom Rom based on 12b with a custom overclocked kernel was worth it, since this sdcard hack didn't support 12b or overclock

So previously I had Link2SD on my phone with a 32GB card. It wasn't working well so I decided to try this. I did a factory reset via CWM on the phone and saw it was still rooted (don't know if this is normal) and then installed this mod via F6 utilities.

The Link to SD icon only shows up when I first boot up the phone. It shows a chest in upper left corner and says checking 'link to sd' apps. Is that normal?

Shouldn't the factory reset have erased all my Link2SD settings?

new download link?

i was unsure if you were refering to my post or something else but i was mentioning a psp thing whitch this is an android thing so i didnt post a link to such thing but if youd like to see the link for that guide it does still exist, just didnt think it was needed for this topic lol

I had the hack working on 12b just fine.

One thing I can't seem to get working is Link2sd Pro setup...I thought I had it working but when I went in to manually link or convert, nothing links or converts and shows errors.

My BOIGGEST problem with this phones low memory is that I want to be able to install large game files like The Walking Dead which is over a gig.

This hack works well for this, just can't stand the slow web browsing issues and the freezing up and lagginess of the entire system due to slow write speeds and the loss of having an overclocked kernel.

Anyone here think a card with a rated 80MB/50MBs would work to smooth this thing out?

I mean I am not sure what the phone can handle or how the card would actually perform.

And I would still have liked an overclocked version nevertheless.

What size and type is your first and second sdcard partitions?

I created an 8gb fat32 first partition, and an 8gb ext4 second partition, installed link2sd and the pro key, opened link2sd, granted root, setup mount scripts as ext4, rebooted phone and linked away!

Can someone upload the new F6Utilities2 and post a link in drop box or something? OPs link broken due to domain name expiration.

Thanks in advance if you could.

I think I had it working once, but still kept getting low storage messages and could not install large apps and nothing would convert etc.

I set it to autolink In settings. I also used pro version so I could link app data to sd too, cause I still got low mem errors after all my apps were linked. That helped a lot. Then I converted unnecessary system apps like Google play books, etc to user apps and linked them plus data too. Then I used an app called fix permissions to fix each system app I converted to make it stop force closing and to make the weird startup error about uids not matching. Since then haven't had one single issue.

I am going to try and install on another SD card one more time. However I want to save the setup I have right now. I did a nandroid backup of my 64gb sdcard hack. Can someone tell me if this looks like the right steps to get back to stock.

1. So to get back to stock I would need to flash a kernel such as Freedom Kernel. This should uninstall the Sdcard hack, correct?

2. I need to do a Factory reset on the phone. Can this be done in CWM or within the original factory rom in the settings?

3. Root the phone again if needed?

4. partition sdcard with fat32 and ext4 partitions and place into phone.

5. run f6utilites2 and apply sdcard hack?

Does this look correct?

Also lets say I want to go back to my other card with a nandroid backup. How can I restore the phone? Will just going into CWM and restoring the phone allow me to use the 64gb card again?

Thanks.
