Root [MetroPCS] Most stable root method for 12b

Hi, I am wondering if some one could tell me if the OTA Update is the one you do on the computer not the phone one where you would go into the System Info and System Update, something like that so am i supposed to update it with that lg mobile support tool?!?!?!?

oh NVM i was supposed to do the System Update in the phone not on the computer NVM lol well there was no point of saying that :)

I never heard of it. It might be prudent to wait until someone can vouch for it?
geohot has been in the hacking scene for many devices. You can google his name and get tons or results. He's the first to release a root for S5 on AT&T and Verizon. I would try it myself, but I'm already rooted on 12b. Since we are still having such a difficult time getting 12b rooted without the whole downgrading process. The XDA thread was made yesterday, it's at 65 pages, lol.

*** Well ***, if you have "faith", unroot, and try it? :D

How? As long as there's a way to restore a backup, I'm willing to test this.

From the OP - "Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper" - Temp, Un-root [for example]. But, don't do it unless you feel comfortable doing it. I think "SuperSu" allows you to un-root as well.

EDIT: I seem to remember Android Forums - View Profile: Trevor Philips, from some of his posts, has tried at least 2 or 3 different rooting methods. Maybe he'll give this one a try? :D

EDIT2: Is it unusual for an XDA thread, I'm throwing a party and you should come **GS5 ROOT THREAD** - xda-developers, to go over a 100 pages in 1 day?

Ok, y'all I've messed this up twice gotten it to work and then gotten a new phone and gotten it to work. I don't know how to post links but you can find them all in these numerous root guides. You don't have to factory reset. I used KDZ with the newest drivers to go back to 10i. I did not lose any apps or data, even had the same wallpaper. Used saferoot.apk on my phone not my pc to get SU. DO NOT INSTALL ANY NEW RECOVERY AFTER YOU GET ROOT. INSTALL the OTA Rootkeeper app and wait for the check boxes to show up after you run it. Make a protected backup of SU. After that temporarily unroot via OTA Rootkeeper. Make sure the root box is unchecked after this obviously. Now take the OTA update. After it runs and does its thing you will be on 12b with all your apps and data still there. Go back to OTA Rootkeeper app and hit the button that says Re-root, you may have to hit it twice, I did one time. Check if you have root by installing a root checker app off the market or any other app that needs root permission. If it asks for root permission, congrats you have 12b with root. Now you can install recovery via f6utilities or whatever your choice is. Now if you messed up somewhere and didn't follow these instructions to the letter and are stuck in a recovery loop, don't fear this happened to me a couple times because I didn't follow instructions exactly. Put your phone in download mode by powering it off and holding volume up while plugging it into your PC. Don't hit the power button, just plug it in. Use KDZ to install 10i the way my instructions say on top. In KDZ make sure you have no other programs open as this tends to Jack with KDZ on my PC. Just a tip. The 2 buttons on top of KDZ need to be on 3GSM or whatever and emergency mode for it to work. Hope this helps.

Im not sure if this will work for everyone because it seems like regardless of I or B sometimes something works and sometimes it doesnt but i have a f6 on 12b and i tried every method on here and many more but nothing worked then i stumbled across towelroot_v1.apk and it worked quickly and easily and without a p.c. apparently there are other versions of towelroot i dont know if they would work but i know towelroot_v1.apk worked for me ...hope it helps i know how it feels to take an update and get stuck without root

You are rooted with towelroot but you want to unroot? Whats giving you a hard time

I'm not responsible if you mess up your device this method worked for me use at your own risk

To get back to 10i use this:
[GUIDE]Using KDZ to get back to MS50010i firmware - Android Forums

DO NOT INSTALL CWM, OTA UPDATE WILL NOT INSTALL

:

3. Install and run Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store. Make a backup using app .
4. Install OTA update (it might take forever for it to popup).
5. Run OTA Rootkeeper and restore su backup. Reboot

thanks to hubsabubs and duper1 from the f3 side for providing us with the method and kdz for getting back to 10i and nirhazine for finding the most stable root process

towelroot worked fine for me it took me about 2 minutes and i didnt even have to go back to older firmware versions www.towelroot.com
