Hi guys. I'm a transplant from the boost s3 forum. I've been reading through your nicely put together forum in order to root my daughter's metro s4. I'm hopeful someone can answer a few questions. Is the "Install 4.4.2 TW on Metro how to guide" still the best way to get her to 4.4.2? After I use CFAutoRoot will I be able to install a custom recovery or is there still not one available? Does anyone have a direct link to the stock Tmobile m919 UVUEMK2 4.3 rom I need to use. I don't want to grab the wrong one! Thanks in advance for any help or advice. It looks like you guys have more to deal with than the s3 rooters.

The "Install 4.4.2 TW on Metro how to guide" via odin, is one way to get version 4.4.2 or instead, just root and install a recovery, you can then flash just about any tmobile rom you like without installing the tmobile 4.4 bootloader. The first page of this thread has a list of root methods, recoveries and roms to choose from. If you are currently on 4.3, you should go with the saferoot method and then flash TWRP via goo manager. Easy. If you're still on 4.2 then use the CF autoroot method to root and then install TWRP. Then use TWRP to flash a rom.

Thanks ARocker. Is it the 4.4 bootloader that we can't root then install a custom recovery? My daughter is on 4.3 now but I think I would rather get her to the most recent bootloader then root and flash a custom recovery if possible. If there will be problems flashing a recovery after root please let me know. It looks like some folks may be having issues.

There are no real issues with flashing the T-Mobile 4.4 boot loader. You can root it the same way you root 4.3 and recoveries are the same too (use the most recent cf autoroot to root, older versions won't work).

The only problem is that if you flash the T-Mobile firmware (4.4) there is no way currently to go back to a MetroPCS firmware (4.3) because with KNOX, once you update the boot loader, you can't downgrade. So you'll be stuck with the T-Mobile firmware until metro decides to update theirs to 4.4 or 4.5 or whatever. If for whatever reason you should want or need to go back to a MetroPCS firmware that is.

Updating the bootloader doesn't really do much anyway. Its the updated ROM that you want (and the modems) and you can flash any number of different roms. But do what you must :)

Thanks for all your help. Just getting a game plan together prior to working on her phone. I'll probably just root her at 4.3 then.

I'm buying the s4 from metropcs can I use the m919 ROMs on this phone and how can I fix the apns so I can get lte
Yes you can use most m919 roms. There's a list of them that work on post 1 of this thread. You shouldn't need to mess with the apns at all depending on the Rom you flash. If you do for some reason, post 1 has the default apn info so you can fix it.

Thanks man I'm buying I was checking

Great! The s4 is a great device with lots of rom options. With Metropcs, you get REAL unlimited data with no data caps or slowdowns. You could also buy a used or refurbished tmobile M919 S4 and hook it up with Metropcs. Same thing.

Can anyone clarify if his root process for Tmobile works with metro pcs?

How to: T-Mobile Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.4 root (NH7) with CF-Autoroot | AndroMods

Yes, it does.

All you needed to do was visit post #1 of this thread. Root methods are there as well as anything else you need for the MetroPCS S4.

There is no root method developed for the MetroPCS S4. All are from the Tmobile S4 and work with the Metropcs S4. This includes root, roms and recoveries as well. Tmobiles stuff works with our device. No modification or patches are necessary.
