ok I played around with one of these at office depot for an hour and like the pen feature so thinking of selling my ipad mini. I see it has a micro SD card slot, can you save music/movies to it and save the internal memory for apps etc?
Music, you can save to the externalSD and most music players should be able to recognize that music, without any issues. There are some exceptions, but for the most part that isn't an issue.
Videos/Movies are a slightly different story. It really depends on where you got the videos, if they are DRM protected, and some other factors.
For instance, Google Play Movie downloads automatically into this folder:
/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.videos/files/Movies/<random characters>files will be seen with different random character id names and will also be .wvm files
- These files can be moved to the SD card, but they cannot be played from the SD card (to my knowledge). I attempted moving one of my files, to see if it would identify as a "personal video" on the Google Play Movies app, but it didn't identify at all.
For Flixster (which is the common download system for many digital copies that accompany blu-ray's/dvd's), the files definitely can't be found from the SD card. I have a ton of movies that I've downloaded, then moved over the files to the SD Card, with a folder specifically for that title...and then move them back into the required folder in order to play them. It has worked for me before, but I'm not sure if it still continues to function the same.
So, I wish I could say it's an easy yes/no answer, but it really depends on where you purchase the video/music and what player you're trying to use to play the video/music file.
This is also a big reason why Google doesn't have microSD cards on their Nexus devices. #1) They're attempting to get people to rely more on the cloud (good luck on that one) and #2) They want people to be more reliant on the internal storage for downloads, if necessary.
These are two (2) trains of thought that I really don't agree with, when it comes to Google and how they have set up Android in more recent times.
