Micro SDHC Card Deals

Usually I wouldnt trust buying flash from ebay but my friend bought one from him and its real, the guy has great feedback and has sold 200 of them with no complaints.

I havent had much luck with off brand flash cards, I like to stick to big brands.

Several questions:
1. Can the SD Card be password protected in case, for example, it fell out of the phone and was found by someone and it had private data on it that you didn't want others to see?
2. What can and can't go onto the SD Card? For example, can contacts go on the card? Do you always have to download things directly to the phone's internal memory first or desktop/laptop first and then transfer to SD Card, or can you load directly to card?
3.How do you add the "Thanks" button at the bottom of these messages? I tried the "thumbs up" icon below, but that didn't work.
Thanks!

1. There are any number of password protection apps on the market that will block access to files or folders you choose, but I'm not aware of one for the whole card. Because of the phone's design and the fact it has an added cover for the card slot, losing the card only would be very difficult.

2. The card can be used for photos, videos, music, apps, etc., but contacts are stored on the phone. Contacts will auto sync with your GMail account, so data can be added there, or on the phone.

3. The thanks button works for me, and others...just give it a second and it will normally add the thanks in a box below the post.

Can you suggest some file-protecting apps specific to files, especially apps without too many "permissions", since I am learning from my research on these forums that those "permissions" can pose a real privacy problem. My phone, of course, is already password protected. (And where IS that "Thanks" button? I tried the thumbs up icon but that doesn't seem to be the magic code. Thanks!

How important is the Class rating? Do some applications need a minimum Class to run without lag/stuttering?

My take is that Class 2 would be good enough for anything you want to do on this phone. Use higher class memory for higher resolution cameras, camcorders, etc. I use a class 6 memory card on my HD camcorder and have no problems. Probably could have got away with a class 4 but wanted something a little faster when transferring files back and forth to the pc.

Shopping around for an 8gb, is there any difference between A-Data, Wintec and Transcend brands? Any one more reliable or are they just likely to die a quick death,i.e, fail, as some reviewers have experienced?

I don' think you'll likely find much difference...best place to look for feedback on specific flash cards is usually Newegg.

Yeah, I've been looking at Newegg and SuperMediaStore trying to pick one. I ordered a Wintec Class 6 8Gb, along with some blank DVD media that I needed on sale.

For thos that live in the Miami, Fl area I found someone that will be selling the 32 GB chips for 30.00. He is out of stock but will get more soon. I will update. This is for Miami area only and you pick it up locally. Dont ask me where he gets them!

16GB Micro SDHC MicroSD Flash Memory Card New 16 GB 16G | eBay

16GB, Class 2 card + Adapter for $23 total. There are multiple postings so don't worry if this one ends, just search by seller or highlight the product, copy/paste and search.

Pretty bad reviews of Icemonkey.com on reseller ratings. Not sure if saving $10 over Amazon's price on a 16 gig card is worth it.

Check Sandisk's website during the holidays and you can snag closeouts and outlet buys for really cheep. My 32GB mSD was $60 shipped. It's class 2, but I save everything short of my Dalvik cache files on it with no performance degradation. Doesn't seem to have been sold cheap for a reason, a quality product and normal warranty. I actually tried formatting an ext2 partition on the card and nothing could recognize the whole card afterwards; Sandisk was quick to replace it. (Little did I know I could reformat with a Linux live CD. I realize I was lucky they took my card when the fault was all mine.)

I've been burned by eBay and there memory hacks it'll show more even plugged in such as 32GB in my case but when you run a memory test after 4GB it loses data so it will add data but you will lose all that data.

Yep...a lot of fake flash memory on eBay. A reputable dealer like Newegg or other is often advisable. Ordering cheap flash memory from China on eBay is likely fudged.

i've learned to always buy name brands when it comes to this stuff. You generally get what you pay for, imo.

I have been aware of counterfeit memory cards for a number of years. That is why I opted to purchase a SanDisk 32GB class 4 card in the retail package. It was a few dollars more than the bulk package. The card has a serial number and a class 4 stamp. The cardboard blister pack looked legit.

When I bought it from Amazon and it was sold by them, not sold by someone else and fulfilled by Amazon. It was about $62 delivered. The one I bought is now only being fulfilled by Amazon and the picture is now of a class 2.

Here is the link.

I dropped over twenty gigs of MP3s, photos and videos on it. It has been working fine for a month so far. I hope it continues to work flawlessly for a long time. I have other SanDisk CF and SD cards that have been problem free for years.
