Might be switching to Thunderbolt

Shoulda got the T-bolt! It is awesome. I've owned both phones, and I think the Inspire is a dang good phone.

But the T-bolt...well...I love the t-bolt...

And it sounds like it would have been perfect for you, seeing as how you are near plug all day and like unlimited data.

Just got unlimited data so I'm all good.

I'm already in a 4G activated city and eventually HSPA+ backhaul will be up so I guess I can wait a little bit longer.

Verizon was really a last resort because AT&T was forcing my hand but all is good now. :p

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THE IPHONE2G NOW?

sounds like a HECK OF ALOT OF TROUBLE.............................

by the way, it appears that this would only work for those who DON'T ALREADY HAVE AN INSPIRE 4G... (otherwise how would you say you're upgrading to the Inspire)?

I just canceled the Thunderbolt order. :)

You ask why?

I am now officially on an AT&T unlimited 3G smartphone plan.

But Shawn how is that possible?

A, Get an iPhone2G (first generation)
B, Activate it on iTunes and register with AT&T for the unlimited $20 plan and 200 text messages
C, Confirm on AT&T's website that you're now on the $20 iPhone 2G plan
D, Call in to AT&T and tell the CSR that you're switching to an Inspire and that you want to keep your unlimited smart-phone plan
E, CSR rep will try to switch you to 2GB for $25 or 200MB for $15 but stand fast and demand that you keep unlimited
F, CSR rep will then upgrade you to the $30 unlimited smart-phone plan.

BTW - Make sure you get your text messages switched back to unlimited or whatever you had it at.

So Shawn does this really work?

Hell YEA - tried and proven

Now kiddies go grab an iPhone 2G post haste because it's rumored that this loophole is about to get patched by the end of the month.

I was just at BestBuy. they had an actual working Thunderbolt display.

Pretty much like the Inspire. but the DATA on this phone is screammmmming fast. I did some speedtest.net tests on it, and DOWNLOAD was around 14mbps, and UPLOAD was ~ twice that around 25mpbs. ( I did more than 1 test, and also used testmy.net). Same results. Interesting enough, the ISP was "Wireless Service Provider", not Verizon.

First I thought this might have been on in-store wi-fi.....But It was turned off, and Mobile Data was on.

HOLY CRAP. 4G LTE is blazing fast. Will screwed up AT&T ever see speeds like this? Somehow I think never........

If a Thunderbolt wasn't $249.99, I would have signed up for one on the spot. But I only have $19.99 for my Inspire.

Anyway, I know this is the INSPIRE forum., but the THUNDERBOLT blows the inspire away as far as data usage. (AND UNLIMITED)

It is a bit of trouble but It works.

Once you activate the iphone 2G it shows up in the system. The CSR is normally not going to review your phone history to see what phone you just came from. If they try to give you problems, then just hang up and keep calling until you get a CSR who will do it.

When I called the first time, right off the bat she said I see you have the iphone data plan and I told her I just got an Inspire and I want to switch my data plan over to a personal smart-phone plan. She never questioned how long I had the iphone or anything.

You just need to talk to the right person

Also I just sold it to someone off craigslist for more than what I paid for it. I didn't know that even with dead pixels this phone is in high demand.

YES I DID AND I LOVE IT! !! nothing but nexus from here on out.
I want to know if there's a way to cancel your 3000+ posts that went on and on (and on, and on) about how the Inspire was more awesomer than anything, evar. And I'm still waiting on the promised "4G" that you wrote was to be switched on this month...

Compared to the other crap on AT&T the Inspire is awesome, I would still have it if i could afford two phones but between the pur google experience and vanilla android plus the fact that I am starting to develop an app, the Nexus returning to the fold made the most sense and when my friend offered to buy my inspire, it fit. I don't know what your problem is but i dont complain about your posts why dont you and tempusfugit worry about yourselves

1. You are going to a slower network.
2. The Update has arrived as of 4/29/11
3. You are virtually trading for the same phone with few minor differences.

I am also thinking about jumping ship to Verizon not because of the unlimited data which I have on AT&T but Verizon seems to get better phones and the coverage is so much better here in Southern Oregon. All up and down I5 there are dead spots on AT&T but a friend that has Verizon has zero dead spots. I think I can get out of the contract because I have to use my phone for work and when traveling back and forth between our call centers I have to get all my emails and phone calls and often miss them.

I work with a guy with a rooted Thunderbolt and he's now envious of the LeeDroid ROM I'm running with Sense 3.0. Also up here in Shreveport,LA we ran speedtest.net side by side and his download was a little faster most the time although when connected to the same server in Little Rock AT&T smoked Verizon here and the AT&T upload was about 5X what Verizon was getting. I love that it's even faster when I'm back at home on Houston.

What part of Houston do you live in and what kind of speeds are you getting?

I'm seeing around 3Mbps on average where I work (Westchase District) and about 4-6Mbps @ home (Stafford).

I live in the Pearland/Friendswood area (not technically Houston i know) but spend a good deal of time in spring. I haven't tried any speed test on the new ROM I flashed so I'll post the results as soon as I'm down and get a chance. Here in Shreveport I average about 1.6Mbps down and around the same up which isn't bad considering that's much faster than my iPhone 4 ever got here and Tmo and Sprint just now got 3G up here.

i agree 100%. AT&T has not kept up with their network upgrades.

Non-existing HSPA+ network, you got that right. Amazing the phone says H+, even in EDGE territory.

Verizon will eventually go to metered plans like AT&T, but probably won't be as stingy as AT&T. But If you signed a verizon contract now, you'd be on the unlimited for the duration of your contract.

I did the same with AT&T. I was on an enterprise plan, and I pleaded with them about loyalty, and an unlimited plan. It still exists, but all AT&T could say is "There is no such thing".

I just flat out refused to pay $25 extra for 2GB of EDGE data.

yep, amazon has it for $179 now.

The thunderbolt most certainly can't be much different than the Inspire as far as battery life, being as its practically the same phone build (with a few minor differences).

i'd not complain about the battery life as much if I had a FAST network with UNLIMITED (and I don't really care much about "unlimited"...I'm not a data hog, and my phone life doesn't rely around being "online" all the time...but damnit, I dont want to have to continually check my usage for every little MB I use. I want to use a smartphone with all its features, and if it requires data to do it, then its there.......

Greg's right about the similarity between the T-Bolt and the Inspire. In many ways, they're the same phone - both have lousy battery life. That being said, my friends over on Thunderbolt Forums tell me that their Thunderbolts were *VERY* difficult to root. I found the Inspire to be an absolute BEAR to get rooted - it took me almost an hour, and was a "white knuckler" the whole time (and I've rooted my five android phones, so I'm not a total noobe), but my friends over there, who are on the Rescue Squad on that forum (so they know their stuff), spoke of several hour, marathon sessions just to get the thing rooted, so if rooting is something you want to do, you may want to pause and consider that.

Regardless, I wish you the best of luck with your new phone! :)

I am also about to make the switch to Verizon and a Thunderbolt and dump ATT and my Inspire.

I love my inspire! Best phone I have ever had - and i have had a lot of smart phones, including iphones. ATT just has terrible service in my area. When I first started with ATT a year ago, my phone worked fine and I had at least 1 bar of service everywhere. I am now dropping calls everywhere and have very limited service at best. The reps for ATT admit that towers are down in my area and that this is not a strong area for them, but they stop short of letting me out of my contract.

Verizon is so much more competitve with their rates and they offer the best service in my area. I can no longer afford to miss business calls and the embarassment of calling people back constantly due to dropped calls is getting ridiculous.

I just hope I like the thunderbolt as much I like the inspre.

I am having the same experience with the Inspire loosing service. My BB Torch gets excellent service but we live in a small town and AT&T seems to be worse then ever here. I love the inspire but what good is a phone that you can't use because Facebook even says currently no service often at times.

Err, Verizon is more expensive than ATT or the same price in EVERY case. In general Verizon is FAR more expensive than anybody else. Saw a display at Wal Mart a while back with Virgin Mobile next to Verizon's mobile adapters and plan cards, the Verizon was literally TWICE as much as VM for the same amount of data!! No exaggeration!

For the network thing that's fine, I live in an area where ATT's network is best especially their 3G data which Verizon is very slow at and ATT is way faster than Verizon, but of you happen to live in an area that gets Verizon LTE that's different.

Anyway just wondering how the heck you figure Verizon's prices more competitive when Verizon is pretty much always the most expensive carrier out of the 4? Verizon's prices are only competitive (and only competitive, not better) if you go all unlimited, anything else and ATT is way cheaper for a person who doesnt use many minutes or texts like me. For example individual plans look like:

Verizon 59.99 unlimited talk+text, 29.99 unlimited data, no other plans available, so basically $90 minimum.

ATT for me, 39.99 for 450 minutes (plus a bunch of night/weekend/rollover minutes etc, last I checked I had like 4k rollover minutes) $5 for 200 texts, $25 for 2GB data. So $70. The thing is I dont come even close to using my minutes or data, and 200 texts is enough too, barely but it is.

So I save $20 a month with ATT. Could save $10 more if I downgraded to the $15 200MB data plan, which again Verizon offers nothing less than unlimited for $30. And frankly I track my usage and almost never do I exceed 200MB a month usually I'm on wi-fi, but I like the freedom of the 2GB plan even if I dont actually use it much. So I could easily save 1/3 or $30/month on ATT over Verizon.

Then add in that ATT always gets the better phones faster, Verizon just now got it's first Windows 7 phone, and it's a crappy low spec one! Add to that in Android's, ATT's lineup tends to dominate as well.
