I have an Echo with Sprint which is Pretty cool and I like it but I just recently found out that VM has a 25 bucks plan that gives me everything i need and I was considering Samsung Intercept(even though i hear it sucks) or this.

does this phone come with any free minutes/money like some Prepaid phones come with?

NO FREE MINUTES up front.... But after you TOP-UP with at least $25 (required plan).......If you have a "kickback" code, you can earn an additional 60 minutes.

There are several kickback codes you can use. go to BestBuy.com and read some of the reviews on the Optimus V, you can get kickback codes out of the reviews. (you and the person with the kickback code BOTH get 60 minutes).

THE CATCH > > > You have to register the kickback code when you ACTIVATE the phone (on virginmobileusa.com)

thanks greg. Do you like this phone or would you get the intercept?
Keyboard's don't really matter to me although i hear the Optimus Keyboard
is cramped and I don't like swype.

One of my bosses has the Intercept via VM, doesn't care for it much at all, the other has the Optimus V (she bought hers just after I bought mine), seems to like it better than the Intercept.

I had a slide out keyboard on my old VM phone, didn't like it at all, so between the fact that my bosses didn't care for the Intercept, and the fact that it had a slide out keyboard, I went with the Optimus instead.

Don't really like the onscreen keyboard either (I don't like swype either), but using Thickbuttons, I'm slightly less inaccurate when I type than with the default Android keyboard. :)

The phone itself didn't come with any start up minutes, but I'm one of the many that got it when Best Buy had their package deal that included a $25 top up card along with the screen protector and car charger, so essentially got a month free that way.

how much did all that cost you?

I love my Echo....I heard there was no way to use Sprint phones on VM even though they are running on Sprint's network

Dude get the optimus. I have one and I love it! You can turn off swpye and use the android keyboard which is what I did. Its less cramped and I like having the keyboard vibrate when I type. Plus, is optimus guys are getting the 2.3 gingerbread update soon!

I think it was around $160 (the phone was $130, and the rest of the stuff was $30, something like that.)

Nice deal despite some bad timing. I'd pretty much already decided to get the Optimus, was just waiting someone to have it on sale. Was/is still paying off some major medical bills from a surgery in January, so wasn't really thinking "new phone/new rates" quite yet. But when BB put that package deal on sale, couldn't pass it by.

Haven't looked back. Still can't get over all the stuff it does compared to my old NONsmart VM phone. And that unlimited data plan? I'm SO there.

I played with both the intercept and optimus V today and gotta say that I enjoyed both phones but I am so suspect of the Intercept from the reviews on the virgin site saying how bad the phone was....

I am probably leaning more towards the optimus

i have the Optimus and my wife has the Intercept. we both like ours respectively. my wife just really wanted the slide out keyboard. once i manually updated her phone to the Froyo 2.2, it works just as well as the Optimus.

i personally prefer the Optimus just because i've already mastered the Swipe typing function. it's good if you like Live Wallpaper, though they drain a lot of battery.

you're probably good either way. one thing to keep in mind is that the Optimus is getting the 2.3 update soon, which may make it more advanced than the Intercept.

get it. it's awesome. i have never loved a phone so much.

I agree :)

Intercept has a faster CPU (800mhz), but a lot of reviews says it can get laggy. Although Optimus has 600MHZ, it also has 400mhz modem processor and 300mhz graphic chip. So the Optimus is more stable at multitasking.

Optimus has higher resolution (320

Question.my little brother got a phone(one of the lower end..lg rumor 2) and his reception is horrible...

He got it last night. It doesn't send text messages out or receive them even though he is on a plan that allows them.

Also while talking on the phone it breaks up pretty bad. He is taking it back today.

Now VM runs on Sprint's network on my Kyocera Echo is a Sprint Smartphone and i have about 2 bars in my home and he has 0-1 bars.

is there a chance my LG optimus V will have similar coverage or will there be a chance it has better coverage since it's a smartphone and made from better materials?

LG Rumor 2 is one my daughter considered and we were told by EVERYONE we asked to get the Touch instead. Good call, it works great for her.

If you find you don't get coverage as good as your sprint phone, you can do a PRL swap to a hybrid PRL using all sprint towers. It helped me in my dead-zone-home. Search XDA or AndroidCentral for info.

Just a note, there is NO 25$ a month plan anymore. For all new users, it went to 34$ a month. Those that were already paying 25$ (me), were "grandfathered" into the new price plans. We still pay only 25$. The Pay-As-You-Go plan is the ONLY plan that allows unused minutes to rollover. Beyond that, Optimus is the OMEGA lol.
