everytime i use an app that requires superuser permission on mik 2.57, superuser force closes and i cant access the app.
ive tried uninstalling superuser and reinstalling, ideas?

Had same issue with coworker and 2.57. We didn't uninstall Superuser we just re-flashed from recovery and no problem now. Try mikg website, there is a link to older versions of superuser, you may try different version.

No two act the same.

you can also try going into manage applications and clear data for super user. then open the superuser app, hit menu - preferences and set it to auto allow.

I have no issues now with super user 3.0.5 like this, but I had all kind of issues on manual allow setting.

may not work for everyone, just an idea.

I've posted about this before, and I'm going to have to strongly suggest reflashing the old superuser rather than allowing ANYTHING that wants root access to your phone automatically being granted permission.

Security is a big deal

True, if you don't know what apps are installed on your phone or don't read permission changes on apps.

I have the same few apps that I always allow super user access. And no others have ever asked. That and superuser will still give a notification of an app being given permission. If you don't want it to then you can just remove that app and the permission from super user at that time.

I'd be more concerned about regular apps that pull info for whatever reason. And wouldn't need root access anyway...

Drive by downloads? Browser exploits? Botnets?

Similarly to the history of computer malware, the mobile malware arsenal is growing and branching out. Its not just apps you have to worry about anymore.

Ok, so basically things that most likely wont need root access anyway? Especially with that HTC logger vulnerability out, good thing that was removed from my rom.

Yeah I hear ya, but I would be more concerned about sticking my ATM card in a gas station pump.

My family has have tthe gas station happen a couple of times. And my wife's identify has been stolen before.

So we monitor our financials really close. And are very careful about not using our phones in that matter anyway. Still to be honest, I'm not so sure these things you speak will need root access. Since most people aren't rooted anyway and even fewer would have root access set to not prompt.

I do hear you tho, but to each their own.

I respect your decision to allow all, but at the same time I can't guarantee others who view this thread looking for answers to their superuser force close problems will be as careful about what they put on their phones as you are. I hope you did not take it as a personal attack.

You are right in the fact that the types of malware I mentined may not need root to be malicious (after all, they are alerady taking advantage of another exploit), but having it able to gain root may open up a whole new can of worms for someone.

After all, gingermaster has shown that potential to gain root access without user knowledge already

Not that flashing the old superuser will protect from those kinds of things anyway...
