Root mikg 2.56 wiped out sd

Your google contacts should be backed up "in the cloud" by google. Flashing a ROM wouldnt wipe that.

Also, are you sure your SD card didn't just die? Is it able to mount correctly? Is it able to be read from or written to?

Installation of a ROM shouldn't touch the SD card unless you chose to wipe it in the menu.

OK paniced before exploring. Had to log into google acct....got contacts loaded, Gmail back up.... now how to import apps stored on sd card ?

WOW what a surprise to flash first rom.

OK. my mistake. no Titanium back up..thought clockworkmod was what i needed dut realized that is for restoring to previos working system.

I see the apps through root explorer..but dont see how that will pull apps back to phone. A few apps re-downloaded linked back to sd stored file but just looks like game links between sd an phone got fubared.

I just missed some key steps.

when you move apps to the sd card you are most likely using apps2sd. so by either in settings or with titanium backup, a2sd is involved.

apps2sd is something that was brought along with froyo. it basically splits the apps into 2 pieces and moves one part to the sd card and the other parts stays on the phone. so you are not really moving the entire app over to the card. so when you wipe or flash to a new rom only part of the app stays on the card. and that is why you can't install it the app.

to have the app entirely on your card, you need to partition your card and depending on the rom, you may need to use dark tremors to move the apps to the card. this is what we call a2sd. it basically creates a symbolic link on your phone letting it know where to find the app on your card.
