Root MikG 3.11

-Mike-

Android Enthusiast
Rooted new phone last night/this morning. Flashed Mik 3.11. my phone absolutely sucks donkey butt.

My other Evo had an earlier version of MikG and worked better than anything out there. I could go all day on one charge, phone was fast, had decent data connection.

Now, it takes forever and a month to update PRL and/or Profile, The Playstore app is gone (it was there as "Market"), and my batter went from 100% to 85% in about 3 minutes.

Any better ROMs or suggestions? Did I do something wrong? This is the 4th Evo I've rooted. All others were NICE.

what did you wipe when you flashed mikg? what recovery do you have?

the app store should return. if anything check your app drawer. if it is not there then i would just go back to recovery wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash mikg. or you can dig up the play store apk and use a file manager to install it.

and as far as battery goes, have you tried a custom kernel. mikg usually comes with a stock kernel. custom kernels are better especially if you use setcpu to tweak the kernel.

I followed the guide for 2.18. I used the first recovery option in the rooting guide. I used the superwipe that was recommended. I followed the guide down to the letter. Every other time it has been easy. Only difference this time is I used the Ti backup to restore apps.

did you restore user apps and data or system data? whatever you do do not restore system data. it usually contains bits of the previous rom and it could conflict with your current rom.

you need to wipe in addition to superwipe. if you are having issues still then i would do a fresh flashing of mikg. basically wipe everything but the sd card, flash the superwipe file and then flash mikg.

i wiped- data, d cache, and cache. Then I did superwipe. from there i flashed Mik from sd card.

What kernel do you recommend for MikG 3.11, and can i flash it from usb?

every kernel is different. what works for me may not work for you. but i would try antrax, underworld, or the freedom kernels. you can get them here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html. and always give the kernel a few days to settle in.

not sure what you mean by flash it from usb. you can mount the phone via usb and transfer the kernel zip file over to the card.

Could he possibly have a bad download of MikG?
Unfortunately, I cannot find an MD-5 for MikG3.11 to double check the integrity of the download.

Yeah, I've been playing around with 3.11 and found I do not like it as well as 3.0. I could not load the anthrax kernel onto 3.11 but could load it on the. 3.0. I noticed some other settings that I was used to gone as well. I will stick with the 3.0/anthrax/beats audio setup.

not sure what you mean that you could not load anthrax. what exactly happened? you should be able to flash anthrax with no issues. what recovery do you have? what did you wipe? you only need to wipe dalvik cache and cache.

Well maybe that was my mistake right there is forgetting to wipe dalvik cache and cache. After flashing anthrax the phone just kind of froze up, I had to pull the battery and reboot, then I was able to reload my nandroid. Thanks ocnbrze, I give it another shot....

yeah always wipe before flashing roms and kernels.

I re-flashed following the steps in order again. All is back to normal (or close enough).

If I flash a Kernel, will I need to do a Ti back-up or will this not affect anything?

Nope, just wipe cache and dalvik cache, then flash kernal.:)
Do a nandroid backup if desired....(personally, I dont before a kernel flash)

ummm its kernel not kernAl. lol

i would recommend that you do a nandroid backup always until you fell comfortable enough not to do it. just remember that nandroid backups are your friend. it has saved me many times.

I spelled it right the second time..:p

And what is "fell comfortable" ? And how about the capital letters at the beginning of sentences..ya grammar nazi.;) jk

Do you guys have any other recommnedations for ROMs? I'm still not happy with the battery life and data. I was doing fine on old phone with Sprint PRL. I had to switch to VZW PRL to stream iheartradio. We have been upgraded to LTE here in my parts. They say our data should be A-Ok as of September. It was really good until I swapped phones.

Oh..... I'll give you both a free pass on the grammar/spelling/punctuatio/etc.... since you're schooling me on all this Android Root ROM Kernel business...

Thanks for the free pass:)
And I just know I'm gonna get ninjd on this but here goes.
See this.

Click on "roms" and see the "staff picks"..
Ocn got a fantastic write up there!!

Can you recommend a good ROM/Kernel combo? I just dont have enough understanding of this stuff yet to make what I would call a "good decision", lol!

I see a lot of cool/neat ROMs but I get weary when I see some of the bugs and stuff. I liked the appearence of the Nitrous ROM. Is that a bug-free, smooth running ROM? What kernel should I install with that ROM?

I'm gonna owe y'all dinner and a movie after all this.....

please read the second post of the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html. it has good info and may answer some of your questions.

it is hard to recommend a kernel as what works for you may not work for me. the only thing is to make sure that you flash the correct kernel for the kind of rom you are on. if you are on an aosp rom make sure that you flash an aosp kernel. same goes for sense as well.

the staff picks in the list are great suggestions of roms that are really good and stable with no issues or bugs.

+1 to what ocn said, but coming from a guy who doesn't flash roms much (me), I'd give Decks Reloaded a go....it works awesome for me and includes a kernel (most do anyways)...you can later change kernels if desired....:) And you can tweak kernel settings etc ...
