Root MikG Rom gone crazy....

ZuhGerman

For starters: sorry if this is posted in the wrong area :(

Can someone help me? I'm very new to rooting and MikG rom was my first ROM I ever got up and running. It was running fine for a month or two, and now it acting up.

This is exactly why I almost told myself not to root this phone. I figured it'd be cool to have custom ROMs and what not, but what is the point if they're going to act crazy? Keep in mind, I have literally done NOTHING to tweak it, have not added any crazy games, updated anything, deleted any system files or the like. I'm a pretty tech-oriented person with computers, but admittedly new to doing stuff with Droid, but I could surely speculate when I've done something or introduced a weird variable to cause this. This is what's happening after a month or so of using it:

- Random freezes on all sides of the ROM, from screen unlock, to texting
- part of the screen is just not working, but I know it does. I sometimes cannot use "P", "0", or the "delete" button when typing texts. Just the middle-right side of the screen.
- sometimes typing a text freezes the phone
- sometime the delete key just wont work, forever leaving a word I can't use

I've never had an issue with part of the screen not working, and this is a new phone. Also, my mail never updates per the interval schedule I've set up, which leads me to believe it's a ROM issue since even though it's set for every 10 minutes, I always have to do manually. It never auto updates like it should. Isn't this a SIMPLE, EASY feature to figure out?

At this point, I just want to go back to the stock HTC Sense ROM. It's a shame, but I don't have time in my life for constantly reinstalling ROMs, wiping, doing this and that to keep it running smooth, or having to pander for help online :)

Can someone please provide help, a link, or something how to reinstall the stock ROM? I can't even use Titanium backup since that freezes when I'm in it. I have not yet backed up my contacts either, which I know I need to. I made a Nandroid backup before I installed MikG, and I'm using the latest version of Aman Ra. Your help is greatly appreciated, I'm just highly frustrated. Thanks to my fellow nerds :D

Which phone do you have? We can move this to the section where you are most likely to get help if we know what phone you have. :)

Yep as OCN said I try to remember to wipe both caches like once a week Part of my sat morn routine. It keeps things running smooth. I think this is why over time the stock unrooted rom has problems no way to wipe the dalvik cache on stock recovery. Wipe and you should be good to go if not post back and we will see what we can do for you.

Hey! Sorry, I got incredibly busy with work the last few weeks. So I did wade through the menus and find that wiping both caches and a battery pull seemed to work.........for a while.

As of two days ago, my phone keeps freezing and it's driving me nuts. I still have not done a fresh ROM wipe. I tried clearing both caches repeatedly. Tried recalibrating screen. I've tried EVERYTHING.

Can someone tell me, what in the bejesus is causing the screen to NOT be responsive in this one section? When you're typing texts, the return and delete arrows are non existent. I can't set the "check" to enable my alarms on my alarm clock. It seems teh extreme right of the screen doesn't work with most basic OS functions, but I know it does in other programs.

At this point, I guess a fresh install is warranted. I have Aman Ra. I also backed up my apps with Titanium (where does it save it? to the SD card). I also have a Nand backup from when I first installed. How do I flash the ROM again and start from scratch? I'll give MikG another try, then maybe try another, then I'm back with stock. I just don't have the patience for all the freezes, etc.

Here is a link for the full wipe version of MikGv3.11.
Here are the flashing instructions...post 3 , skip step 4.
Titanium saves it to the sd card.
After a new rom flash, just go to play store, redownload TB, both free and the paid version (if you bought it).
and then you can restore USER apps or user apps/data...never system apps.
Just curious, have you tried a different kernel?

Hey thanks! I have not tried a new kernel, not too familiar with flashing kernels. I installed 3.11 the newest (I believe) about a month and a half ago. It stinks because I like this ROM too.

What do you recommend for contact backup? I tried USB -> PC and using HTC Sync but it can't mount my card for some reason (even though I can browse it, so I know it works).

I want to get this done tonight. I'm trying to text a very sexy lady and can't delete typos and use the far right of my keyboard :( :( :( lol

Oh yea, duh, my bad :) I have an EVO 4G
Well, there are many kernels for sense roms such as MikG.
To flash a kernel, download to computer, transfer to sd card, boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, flash kernel. Give the kernel a few days to "settle" before you chuck it.
Try ca1ne underworld kernel or his classic kernel.
I'll link it in a few, or the Anthrax kernel works very well, however, I'm not sure I am allowed to link to the Anthrax kernel without permission from the developer....stand by.

1.kernels is pretty easy to do. just download the kernel of choice and move it to the sd card. make a nandroid backup then wipe dalvik cache and cache and flash the kernel.

2.as far as contact backups. just make sure that they are saved under google and you should be fine.

3.have you tried unmounting, removing the card, then remount it?

4.i would just wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash the rom.

Just freshly installed MikG Rom, and my screen is still unresponsive about a quarter inch in all along the right side. **** this EVO phone. This a refurb insurance provided from when I broke my phone about 2 months or so ago. I wonder what I can do. It worked fine, then messed up, then worked again for a few weeks, now the dead spot again as of 2 days ago. I read it can be everything from charger problems to the ROM to the orbital rotation of Mars. No one can give a concrete answer. Yay internet.

Should I turn this phone in? Is it possible that the screen is just dead there off and on? Or is it truly software related? How can I troubleshoot? My 2 other older EVOs never did this :( This is my 3rd one. Also, I need to find a way to unroot it if I need a tech to look at it.

wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I wouldn't worry about unrooting it.
And if you don't care, the tech may just do that to diagnose it.
Sprint has a newer policy on rooted phones, so I wouldnt worry about it....(unrooting that is)

well i have never heard of a charger causing this. it certainly does not seem to be a software issue as you just flashed mikg (did you do a full wipe? or just dalvik cache and cache?). and i know for a fact that mars is too far to cause something like this so that is out as well:D

i think that this is a hardware issue myself. keep mikg on there and have the techs look at it. or you can just flash a stock rom. most techs do not care that the phone is rooted so long as the issue is not root related.

Cool, I want to thank you guys for your help. I can't believe I didn't think of this, but I tried landscape and it allows a little more flexibility of texting and checking off the alarms, but this is a short term solution. I may go up to Sprint to see what's going on, I just don't want the attitude of "psh, well it's probably your ROM" when I know it's most likely hardware.

I did do a full complete wipe, followed the guide that was posted up there, minus flashing kernel. Wiped all categories 3 times. Still have unresponsive side bar. I thought the charger thing was ridiculous but there's some random thread about it. I really don't know what could cause it. I haven't banged this phone up at all either. I've had such a horrible run with EVO's it seems.

yeah that is to bad with the phones you have been getting. my refurb has worked flawlessly when i had to switch my 1st evo due to a charging port.
