Couldnt do this without u craig.

So I got to the last step in the nandroid backup and got this message at the command prompt..
Heres the steps I followed to the letter..

doesnt seem like I can do the Nandroid backup

So what now?

ok, so I did wait until the phone fully charged and started the process.
Everything went ok until I reached step 7, and then i encountered the "manual restart problem"
however I cannot manually restart the phone, it just keeps looping through the Android startup screen.

Not sure what to do from here on out.

-I have left RSDlite as is without restarting
-Phone is Still looping (connected to my pc so it wont run out of batteries)

Requesting next steps:
- Process for manual restart? (hold power button down for 4 or more seconds??)
- Next Steps after manual restart is achieved (continue to step 8-9 and above?)

Pull the battery and power cable then start the phone up in bootloader.

Use non-service because service versions keep various things intact which could be interfering with the boot process.

Ok using the manual restart method I got to the end of step 9

However the phone keeps looping, and I am unable to get to the point when I can explore the phone using windows explorer
Clarification: does the phone need to fully boot up to read in windows explorer? or can I bring it to recovery mode?

Downloading the Non-service UK pack as we speak

THANKYOU SO MUCH craigcrawford1988!!!!!

I made it through!!!!
Now walking through the setup process in ENGLISH!!!!!!!

The tutorial Worked great, super simple (if you read it correctly)

Now the only issue I'm running into is that my phone "can't establish a reliable data connection to the server"

Which I'm going to assume is a China specific problem.

Is there a way to skip the setup process and get to the home screen?

I'm glad it worked! :D

Perhaps the baud rate is wrong for your country and that is why it wont connect? There are skip buttons for the setup last time I looked.

Even when I click skip it just brings me to the "welcome to Milestone" so its either Emergency dial or change language....

In lookin at (motorola_milestone:sbf [And Developers]) under 2.1 non-service version, it shows the china bands as 850/1900/2100 on their 2.1 sbf file.
The UK sbf File I downloaded has 900/2100 band range.

Looks like I have to choose between the Canadian, Thai, or Brazillian sbf.. (850/1900/2100)
-------------------------------(couldnt sleep)--------------------------------------------

Dloaded the Canadian (TElus) SBF and had another go.

Same issues this time, but the phone couldnt recognize any wireless networks near me [like 3 inch away from the AP]

I'll have a chin wag with the guys at the market and see what they say.
[there might be some magic involved making the milestone work inside the firewall that hasnt been mentioned on the english speakingforums yet]

I hope it doesnt involve installing the china sbf...

Does the setup guide with the android icon come up?

yep, I get all that and begin the process (select language Yay!) and enter in my google account details.
It tries to connect for about 5 min and then says "cannot establish reliable connection with server"
It then asks to setup the wifi to try again.
After setting it up on my wifi network it tries again for 5 min and displays the same error

Using the UK sbf I was able to connect to my wifi network, using the canadian sbf (current) it cannot

So as I'm waiting for the China sbf to download I thought I'd try out the nandroid backup recovery to check that I can restore it.
(Nandroid Backup: How To: Root the Motorola Milestone | The Unlockr)

A bit confused by the wording and what i'm seeing in my explorer.

Section 4, Step 4...

"Extract the contents of the Milestone-Android 2.1 w Root .zip file you downloaded above somewhere on your computer. Then copy all the files from inside the extracted folder (just the files like
