So what's the bottom line here. I've read this whole thread and a lot of people saying no and people saying yes.
Does the Milestone work on AT&T's 3G network if so which model should I look for when buying?
Thanks.
- Any "Milestone" will work on At&t's network "via an Edge connection". There is no debate about this.
- The "Canadian" Milestone, yet to be released, is the only version which will work on At&t's network "via a 3G connection"...per listed specs.
Given that the "Canadian" version will most likely be branded by, and purchased thru, the Canadian telco, one would have to have the telco provide the unlock code, in order for 3G connection to work on At&t. It would be better to get an "unbranded/unlocked" version, if possible, if you are looking to use it on At&t's network.

Exactly, for those who are on AT&T in the US and want a Milestone you'll have to get the "Canadian Milestone" if you want 3G. The phone officially be released on the 18th of this month. Be sure to buy it unlocked to avoid any issues. Also check if the phone is from Telus.

Looks like it will support HSPA+, nice. Now the next question is, "is that $599 Canadian, or $599US"?
I'd still try to hold out for a "non-telco branded" phone, but if that's all that's available, so be it.
The Telus Device, I believe is unbranded, and its 599 CAD with GST AND PST comes down do 672 Total CAD. In US THAT IS 644.
From the pictures the Milestone isn't branded

T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 for 3G which the N900 has.T-Mo also uses 2100. I'm posting from my N900, which has same radios as Milestone, and I've been on 3G and 3.5G all day. I have simultaneous voice/data as well...but is only costing me $40/mo. for both services

The Milestone will not work on 3G
@rfkrocktk;telus.ca just released the Milestone this week and goes $599.canadian without contract. So it WILL work on ATT 3G bands right? It supports all of the required frequencies and everything, so if I bought an unlocked one right now, it would work out of the box correct? I don't want to buy an $800 brick
Speaking of the price, any word on when it'll get reasonable? I could do $600 MAYBE, but for $800, I could get three (count 'em) netbooks.
So, I was down in Bellevue/Seattle last weekend and popped in my ATT & TMO sims into my "EURO QUAD NON NORTH AMERICAN UNLOCKED UNBRANDED (did I forget anything?)" Milestone and I could not get 3G. What I did get was the fastest Edge I've ever experienced on the ATT. Normal edge speed on TMO. Yes, the APN settings were all correct. I had my iPhone 3GS as well w/my Fido sim in it and roaming on ATT the 3GS was MARGINALLY faster than the Milestone on Edge.
Now back in Vancouver, my Milestone with the Fido sim is crawling on Edge.
The Canadian Milestones ARE branded. They have TELUs on the bottom portion of the slider. Just below the menu/home keys. Even if you buy the Telus phone outright w/o a contract, they will not issue you an unlock code. You will have to speak to a Level 2 supervisor, not a level 2 cust service person. I have had Telus phones and there are not just a few hoops, but levels of hoops that you've got to go through.
So, side by side, a new Telus Milestone and my iPhone 3Gs on Fido, it wasn't even close. The Milestone lagged so far in downloading 1 mg pdfs and website rendering. Especially heavy pic laden websites.
I've actually found one spot it does have Telus, and I suspect its probably easily changed. If you pull down the notifications slider from the top bar it has "Telus" right at the very top. Aside from that, theres no branding on the phone itself (only branding of any sort is the Google logo on the back and the Motorola stuff of course)
Man they are going for $700 on ebay. With that high of a price I'll consider switching to Verizon instead to get the Droid.
Its $599 from Telus, plus $42 PST and $30 GST (whatever they are), for total of $672. Does Telus charge "activation" if you are not starting service with them?

Just FYI it's CAD$630 if bought by someone in Alberta since there's only 5% tax.
As much as I want an android phone milestone is not worth near $700. Unfortunately there aren't any options since I'm on AT&T. Was waiting for an HTC phone to be announced for my network but nothing yet.
You pay for it one way or the other. It works out to be the same, or cheaper, if you can reduce your montly costs by going to the $15 MediaNet plan (for data), or moving to a cheaper minutes plan, and supplementing the lost time via a cheaper VoIP SIP solution.
$43/mo for "unlimited everything" (what I have via T-Mobile/Skype) + $500-$700 phone, is the same, or cheaper than any equivalent plan, + any subsidized price for comparable phone, for the 2-year contract that you'd pay for.
I understand your point but the Euro Milestone is in mid $500's. Now that's the price I'm willing to pay. Plus I have a bad habit of changing phones way too often. The phone is not gonna last me 2 years.
$500 for no 3G in North America...too rich for my blood. Good luck with that.
