milestone on the 3g US

I'm sorry that I'm not clear on my point. I'm not planing on getting the Euro Milestone either. What I mean is that the phone itself (forget the fees for data) is not worth $700 for the specs it has. It's not the matter if I can afford it or not.

Fair enough...that's why I got the n900.

I am about to buy an unlocked Milestone from Telus so I Can use it on ATT in the States. However before I buy if I stick a US ATT SIM card in there will I be able to access paid apps or is that not restricted by SIM?

Its country dependent i believe so if you use on at&t you should have access

yes, once you stick the AT&T sim in the phone you can activate paid apps. Well I think you have to setup a google checkout account first, but you will certainly be able to access paid apps.

The specifications for Milestone says

W-CDMA 900/2100 or 850/1900/2100

I guess there should be some way to switching between these two set of freq. in the future?

MOTODEV > Products > Motorola MILESTONE

The only way you could "switch" is to use the Milestone with the product code for Telus. That link is just the "one" product detail page for "two" Milestone products.

Its not unlike the Touch Pro 2 for instance. "One" Touch Pro 2, but "five" different versions (Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T (Tilt2), International).

ok so straight up, i got a milestone from ebay, has all the right antenna specs and frequencies, but im only getting edge. APN settings are right, the edge is fast, really fast though.

BUT its not 3G. straight up, where can i get a legit Milestone (i gotta return this one, im having backlight issues) that would work on my ATT 3g, im kinda having a freakout :p cause i dropped 600 bucks on old technology, hell my 4 year old ATT Tilt rocks HSDPA.

gah, i just want an android phone on my ATT...ill pay someone to help me find one.... /depressed

yeah i know, the telus one. they wont ship to NON canadian addresses. Do you know of any hookups or what not on how to get one? Is there a Canadian version of buy japan where theyll go shopping for you?

Despite knowning a few people who were going to Vancouver for the Olympics, I wasn't going myself. And wanting the Telus Milestone, the only real answer I found was Ebay. Good news was it wasn't THAT much more expensive than getting it myself, and the seller I bought from unlocked the phone before shipping, so it was ready to go out of the box.

I'd suggest simply finding one of the "retail" sellers with a large sales history and few complaints, and if you can justify $700 for the phone... you'll be good to go.

I had a friend ship me one from Alberta and it works fine with AT&T 3G .

I wish I had the Google Voice Search on it. I have installed various APK's without success.

Make sure you set your language pref to English ( United States ) or else your google queries will end up showing Canadian hits near the top.

Do not waste your time driving to Vancouver. I Live in Portland and was going to do so. But, you CANNOT buy the full price version without signing a month to month contract. However, my friend already has Telus service and managed to order it on line from Telus.

My cost after shipping was very close to the ebay prices. However, I had to wait 4 days for my friend to get his via mail and then he fedexed it to me.

Hope this sheds some light on it.

BTW, I love the phone and it works great. However, battery life sucks.

I'm a Telus customer on a mtm with no contract. I walked in, paid full price for the phone with no contract, and walked out. You don't need to be on a contract as far as I know. I'm in Toronto, Ontario.

You're right about the battery life but pick up APNDroid in market and use it to disable HSPA while you're on wifi to help save a lot of battery life. By the way, we don't get Google Maps with Navigation up here, but if you do a little search online for the US Maps apk file and download it, it works like a charm. Motonav will want to charge after a 60 day trial. I'll stick to the free Google service thank you very much.

I just received a Telus Milestone. The serial number on the Telus branded packaging matches the one on the unit. The phone itself has no visible Telus branding.

My previous phone was a Roger's HTC Dream and 3G works great.

I copied the APN settings from the dream to the Milestone and I only get EDGE, no 3G, I use the Telcel netowrk in Mexico.

I read on XDA forums about somebody having the same issue in Costa Rica.

Anybody else having this problem with Telus-Banded-Unlocked-Milestones?

The Telus Milestone from Canada 100% works on AT&T's Edge, 3G, 3G+, and HSPA networks.. I am using one now in CT and I get HSPA almost everywhere here.. It is wicked fast.... iphone what?

I've purchased two Milestones from Telus without any contract. I just said I wanted to buy it outright, and they just handed me the phone (after I handed them my credit card of course). :)

Sold one on ebay to a guy in Buffalo, and he's using it on AT&T without any issues. The other I'm using on Rogers, also without issues. Unlock codes are available on ebay for as little as $12.50. It will definitely not work on T-Mobile's 3G network.

As it turns out, it seems that there is a compatibility issue with the radio baseband software. I read over at the XDA fromus that somebody with the same issue (compatible frequencies but no 3G) applied the Brazilian 2.0.1 patch and the 3G issue was solved.

I did the exact same thing and it worked, I now have 3G available on the Telcel network in Mexico. You can find the upgrade instructions here:

so what's the consensus on the Milestone for AT&T?

My bberry just died so i'm looking to get a nice android phone, problem is I have at&t. i'd like to get it (unlocked already), just pop my sim in, and have it all work. but all this "rooting" and doing crazy stuff to it is making me worry i'll screw it up. is it easy / worth it?

also newb question:
would i have problems with the android market / bloatware? i've heard some people say that the market is only partially functional...

Telus Milestone WILL work on AT&T, it WILL have 3G and HSDPA (3.5G), it also can access ALL market apps.

When you get a Milestone and plan to use it on AT&T, make sure if has the FCC ID: IHDP56KC5 which is Quad-Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and Tri-Band 3G (850/1900/2100) North American frequencies. I would suggest unlocking it when you are in range of the AT&T Network. Mine was unlocked while within the AT&T network and all the APN data and such was set automatically, data worked immediately after it was unlocked.

There is 2 different Milestones available:

FCC ID: IHDP56KC5 = Quad-Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and Tri-Band 3G (850/1900/2100) North American frequencies

FCC ID: IHDP56KC2 = Quad-Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and Dual-Band 3G (900/2100) European frequencies

So I understand that currently, there is no T-Mobile solution to the 3g users wanting the milestone, but I have a question about the specs that I want cleared up.

According to what I've heard, T-Mobile supports the 3g Bands 1700/2100, while the Euro version is 900/2100, so the lack of a 1700 is causing a problem with t-mobile in the US. But when I look at another recently released android smartphone, the nexus one, I see that it supports 900/2100 for T-Mobile as well. Can anyone explain this to me?

Although the nexus one supports 900/1700/2100 Tmobile uses 900/1700 the 3rd band makes it possible to get 3g in europe

I am resurrecting this thread because I am thinking of getting one of these. I like the idea of an Android GSM phone that has a car mount available that is specifically made for that device. The 3G issue is a non-factor for me. Is Ebay my best bet to get one of these right now

No. It's pretty cheap and easy to get a 3g enabled one from canada and this will increase its resale value.
