Help Mini reboot when closing apps?

grvthang

Android Enthusiast
I notice that since the last software upgrade (not the GB upgrade, but the little one after that), about half the time, when I close an app and return to the Home screen, the phone displays this white screen that says HTC (like it's rebooting), and then says "loading" until all the icons come back. The whole thing takes only about 30 seconds or less, but it's annoying as hell.
Anyone else experience this?

I think that is Sense crashing/rebooting when you get the white HTC screen.

Yes, I hear what you're saying - it must be Sense that's crashing. I wonder if my problems recently might be due to an app I recently installed called Multicon - it allows you to fit multiple icons in the same space normally taken up by one. I installed that around the same time as the last software upgrade, so I dont know if the app is causing the crashes (it's something of a pita to set up, or I would uninstall it just to see).

I like Sense, but this is annoying.

If nobody but me is having this issue, then I suspect that it's one of these two apps causing it - Multicon or Folder Organizer. Multicon allows you to fit multiple icons in the space normally used for one. Folder organizer lets me organize my apps by type (say, News, Multimedia, etc). Both of them require some setup, so I'm reluctant to uninstall them unless I'm pretty sure no one else is having this issue. ill guess I'll try it when I'm on vacation next week and have some free time.

Anybody else using Multicon or Folder Organizer?

This is still happening to me as well. I am not using Multicon or Folder Organizer. It seems to be occurring when, a) I exit from Astro or b) when I install a new app and exit from that. I have been removing and reinstalling apps in the effort to determine what exactly is causing it. The maddening thing about it though is that it doesn't happen every time...I am considering a factory reset to see if that helps, but... really not looking forward to doing that :(

Damn, I would hate to have to do a factory reset now. But it seems to be getting worse. And now I have a new issue I think is being caused by it - I wanted to put a Picture Frame widget on one of my home screens. When I select the photo I want to use, and hit 'save' and then exit back to my home screen, the Sense reboot happens and when it's finished, the picture frame widget never appears on the screen. This seriously blows.

It does the same thing to me when i back out of the internet and sometimes the market. It never did that before, only after i did a factory reset yesterday. Maybe something with the new market??

I haven't found any pattern as to when it happens. It seems to occur at any time, regardless of the app being used. It happened several times to me today when exiting the camera.

I'm starting to get concerned - if you just did a factory reset yesterday and now it's happening to you, then I guess the cause isn't Multicon or Folder Organizer, as I had suspected.

I did another factory reset, seemed to fix the mini rebooting thing. However I am stilk not getting any vibration feedback for text messages and calls. Really getting sick of these problems popping up. May just end up going to the verizon store. But any ideas as to why it may not be working?

So that's it? This problem is only happening to the three of us? This is weird. It's getting worse for me; Sense reboots about 25% of the time I return to Home now.

Never mind about the vibrate, I'm just dumb. After my last factory reset everything seems to be working perfectly. So far i haven't gotten any mini reboots. Hopefully it stays now.

I see the mini-reboots on occasion and, today, actually got a message that Sense had crashed and wanted a force stop. I've only seen this (the crash message) once. The mini-reboots are... eh... once every two-three days?

This has been happening to me for over a week too.
I didn't know it was the crash that caused the home screen reloading but now when I try adding widgets to the home screen through the palette button -> widget -> [any widget] I get a crash from HTC Sense...
Also I only have the option of choosing a wallpaper from the gallery and not the live wallpapers or HTC wallpapers... I had to go to a live wallpaper app and choose from there.
I tried rebooting the phone but that didn't solve any problems. Does anyone know what's causing the crashes? I thought Auto Advanced Task Killer was causing the problems but removing it didn't do anything.

I don't have a task killer installed, and it's been happening to me. Another poster said he got them after a factory reset, but then performed another factory reset a few days later and it stopped happening.
I would really hate to have to do a reset....

I finally performed a factory reset two days ago and haven't had a problem since :) However, the clock widget spit the bit again after I reinstalled Skype...grr...I downloaded apps to replace the alarm and timer, so that takes care of that. I did reinstall every app one at a time over a period of time to try to see if one of them was causing the mini reboots. All apps are back in place and so far so good! (knocking on wood)...

I wrote to HTC; their help desk told me to not use a task killer, which might be shutting down processes that Sense uses to operate. I don't even have a task killer installed, so that's not the issue.
Glad you solved your problem. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do a factory reset.

I really don't want to do a factory reset... How much data will I lose? I don't have a task killer, but I have downloaded loads of apps so maybe a common one is causing it since updating the app? Should we list our apps to see if any are common? I also get the crash if I'm exiting the settings menu, not just apps so maybe it's a bit more fundemental. Was sense updated with the recent Gingerbread update?

I'm also having this problem. Upon random exiting back to the home screen (from a variety of areas including both internet and apps) I get the white screen with the green HTC and then my background is all zoomed in. To get it to go back to normal I have to go to Personalize->Wallpaper->Gallery->Backgrounds and then go back to the home screen. It's really strange/annoying.

I don't run any folder organizers, but I do run a Task Killer. I'll try turning it off for a week or two. The issue happens to me every few days.

I'm the OP, and I still have the problem (still haven't gotten around to doing a factory reset). I removed the Multicon icons from my Home screen (but did not uninstall the app), and the problem went away - for a couple of hours. Then it returned as before. It seems to happen randomly when exiting any app or settings or sometimes even when exiting the phone.

Outside of the one response from HTC telling me to not use a taskiller (which I don't anyway), I haven't heard anything else from them and the ticket remains open; if I hear anything further from them I'll post it here.
