Root MiRaGe, SlimBean, Backside ROMs not working

Nayr747

Newbie
I've tried three different ROMs and they have all been completely unstable. I'm new to this stuff, but I've followed the guides as closely as I could so I don't understand what the problem is.

I went from Backside, which would force restart constantly, to MiRaGe because everyone said it was so stable. But after a few days it started to do the same things. It would freeze until I removed the battery, randomly restart about every 10 minutes of use, apps like YouTube and "reddit is fun" would constantly force close or freeze (requiring me to remove the battery again), and after I downloaded the first few apps from the Play store it wouldn't let me download anything else, saying "package file invalid" or giving me an error message on almost every app.

Then after months of dealing with that I decided to try SlimBean, but it seems even worse than MiRaGe or Backside. It will force restart every time after less than 30 seconds of use so I can't even do anything at all on it.

I used two different methods for flashing the ROMs. For Backside and MiRaGe my memory is a little fuzzy, but I think I followed a guide on here. First I used ADB to determine my screen, which is a Novatek. Then I used GingerBreak and Super User to root. Then I used Flash Image GUI to flash the VM670NH recovery image. I put the zipped ROM and Gapps on the root of the SD card and then used Clockworkmod to wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvick-cache, and format all partitions except the SD card. I then flashed the ROM and Gapps.

For SlimBean I did pretty much the same thing, except I tried to follow a different guide which uses Zen Garden recovery. I also deleted/formatted the SD card before flashing the new ROM because I wanted to start fresh.

If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble. Did you check the Md5 sums of the rom and gapps? Sounds like you did everything right, you might have gotten a corrupt download.

I would redownload the rom.zip and gapps and check the Md5 sums. Then before each wipe, go to the mounts and storage section in recovery and make sure the cache partition is unmounted (you can't wipe a mounted partition) . I always do the wipe 3x, each time making sure partitions are unmounted. Wipe data/factory reset ,wipe cache partition ,under advanced sub menu wipe dalvik-cache. Then format everything but sd card install rom.zip and gapps, reboot. Once it boots up, i let it sit for 5minutes, then reboot again, set it up the way you want then most important make a nandroid backup.

Good luck :)

Might need to check the md5 sum of the downloaded recovery. I provided the md5 sum of the BobZohme VM670NH recovery.img in the All Things Root Guide sticky.
It seems like your wiping and formatting everything that's needed, so its either a bad recovery.img. or a bad ROM. Seeings how all three ROMs gave you problems it might just be the recovery that's the problem.

Also: Download a good cache cleaner and Fast Reboot
