Root MIUI bootloop problem

Newbie
Hey guys. I have MIUI as my custom rom and it was been absolutely great, except for 2 days ago when gmail, facebook, twitter, and the rest of my apps were all force closing as I turned the phone on and not working at all. As it is finals week at college, I havent had the time to work on it, but today I was texting and my phone just rebooted without any warning. Took me to the white HTC EVO 4G screen and kept rebooted over and over again. I took the battery out and tried to get to recovery, but when I got to the screen and clicked on recovery, it started rebooting again. I can't get to recovery and my phone will not stop rebooting! Please help!!

Interesting...I've heard of this phenomena happening before, but it only seemed limited to Evo owners running CM7 or CM7 based ROM's.

We can start by attempting to flash a different recovery (found here) but if you still continue to bootloop after that, there isn't much you can do but unroot and take it to Sprint. There doesn't seem to be a solution for this issue as of yet and the majority believe it's ultimately a hardware issue.

Take a look at these threads:

How can I flash anything? I can't get to recovery and how can I mount the SD card to my laptop when it is in bootloop? Thank you!

I'm honestly not sure what that is. haha

It's a micro sd card adapter rather. You place your micro sd card into it, it plugs into your PC via usb and you can transfer files back and forth from your PC to micro sd and vice versa. If you have one of these you can place the appropriate PC36IMG.zip files onto it, place it back on your Evo and flash them through hboot.

Unfortunately, this is the death boot and no one has found a solution to the problem.

Do you by chance know what radio you were on? NV? Wimax?. Did you ever upgrade your radio at any point in time or are on the radio....that was on the phone when you rooted?

just did exactly that. after i got it on the SD card i booted it back up, the SD card updated, i went back to try to boot into recovery and it went to the white HTC evo screen and then the screen went back, it vibrated 5 times and the green LED light started to blink. it now does that whenever I try to normally start up the phone or when i try to boot into recovery...any help?

Correction to those that think its happening only to EVO 4G. There are many that are experiencing this on the samsung 4gs, The other common denominator is the majority are new to rooting so maybe they skipped something or didn't properly wipe before flashing.

The other thing I have noticed is the majority are using the Clockwork Mod Recovery( only seen one post from someone using Amon). I have headr of CWM not wiping properly.

The one thing I am not understanding is many say they have flashed a image but have not been able to get into recovery. Where did you flash then?? What did you Flash?? Did you flash the SD Card?? This I do not understand for the flash part is flashing the internal on the phone, is it not?? If it was just flashing things on the SD that would be a simple fix with new SD and a good image.

Also what is NV???

Ok One other thing to look into, See if there is a error code listing for the HTC EVO 4G anywhere. The 5 vibrates and blinking led sound like an error code of some sort. Most electronic device makers do this in order to test the equipment and the codes point to where problems are or tell exactly what they are.

Just something to check into. If you can find something like this it would be valuable information.

When you tried to boot into recovery, do you mean you powered your Evo on while holding volume down? That would be you booting to hboot, not recovery.

It sounds like you powered your Evo on while holding volume up instead of down. When you hold volume up, you're putting your Evo in diagnostic mode and your Evo will vibrate a few times like you're describing.

Unfortunately you are not the first one to see this.:(

Andy, I am intrigued by your questions.
What radio and stuff were you on?

Thanks,
Naters

I'm just curious as to what people were on specifically. Not sur eif there's any correlation to the radios..... and the death boot but someone did tell me if the the NV is corrupted then the phone is officially toast. But I want to know HOW I corrupted the NV. Is it the wrong NV with MIUI? Not sure but if we can alert people before flashing CM7 or MIUI that DO NOT USE this radio combo or DO NOT USE this NV, then we could hopefully avoid the death boot;)

Google NV;)

No one has said this is only happening to the Evo 4G but to be honest, it's hard for me to troubleshoot an issue with another phone when I don't have that phone;)

I believe this is while pressing power and volume up is when this happens

Correct, this happens when pressing volume up and the power button

Yup, I've seen this before. It won't charge like that either, so you need to pull the battery, and hold volume down and power and see if it will go to hboot.

It will eventually go to hboot but only after a certain period of time;)

This is some interesting stuff.
Now I do believe if you can get to hboot there is hope.
Here is something else that is hopeful. If your able to get into diagnostics then there should be some kind of code that it send out after it is run. Again error codes are built into everything so problems can be pinpointed. So after diagnostics what does the phone do? any vibrations or leds flashing?
I would ask those in bootloop to try this and see what happenes and post results, # of flashes and vibrations, or any possible message appering on the screen.

In CyanogenMod's forum very few have posted a problem like this. And the few that did had a samsung. I to only have an Evo and would like to find a solution, if for any reason just to have it as an option so I can continue to try new things. I don't think this has been a big concern for CM, since its does not appear to be a wide spread issue, seems more random and infrequent.

When you do the power and volume up combo while in the death boot it just shuts off, vibrates 3 times and then nothing. Then it seems that the phone has to reset before I can get to the hboot screen again.

I agree this death boot is fairly infrequent but it's also concerning that there's absolutely nothing to remedy the situation other than buying a new phone or returning it to Sprint and getting a replacement

no, i booted it into hboot by holding the power and volume down, then went to boot it into recovery and the vibrate/green light happens

Mine does not do this, after I select recovery then my phone goes into the bootloop:confused:
