Root [MM] HTC_IME Themed Swype

Sh0e, the 5612 file was working flawlessly for me yesterday when I pushed it to my Droid. Did a clean install of the ROM I was using about 30 minutes ago, pushed the apk file to /system/app, but now I'm getting nothing but force closes.

I used rm to get rid of the apk and used the pm uninstall command on "com.swype.android.inputmethod" then tried to push it again. Even did the su, sync, reboot sequence, but it's still force closing left and right..

Any ideas?

LMAO.. finally figured out the problem, hahaha. Wow, I feel like such an idiot, but it turns out I didn't check the "Unknown Sources" setting in Application Settings. After checking that and redoing the steps, it worked like a charm.

See, I'm living proof that this stuff gets easier the more you try it!

How do I remove the apk from the system>app? I dont know the command to get to that so that I can uninstall it.. =[ i Need some help with that, because im trying to install the gold/black themed swype but It wont install unless I uninstall the HTC IME version of it first

The easiest way for me to do this is to use Root Explorer and delete the Swype apk from /system/app, then go into Settings>Applications>Manage applications, hit Menu, then Filter and select All, then scroll down to find the Swype apk there, select it and uninstall what's left (even though it probably will show 0 data at that point, it will remove all vestiges from /data/data.

I recently compiled a MM theme for swype that skins it to look like the HTC_IME keyboard for the Droid (droid-life posted a blog about it a couple days ago).

Now, I am a Droid owner, but my girlfriend has an Eris and was complaining that she didn't like the appearance of swype and wished it looked like her default (HTC_IME) keyboard. So, since I had already made the theme for Droids, I thought I would convert it over for her. Since she isn't rooted, I compiled it into the swype APK for the Eris and loaded it on her phone tonight, and it works like a charm. Since I went through all the work of compiling the theme and the apk for her, I thought I'd share it with the rest of the Eris community. Hope you guys enjoy it

Instructions:

1. Download the APK and put it on your SD Card
2. If you already have Swype installed on your phone, uninstall it
3. Install this APK
4. Swype to your heart's content!
