Help MMS Download/Upload Issues

You should be fine with wide locker and handcent. I have used both since June.
Interesting app I added last night.....status bar 2g 3g ......it let's me know when the phone is being switched from 3g .... I confirmed iany time a txt or mms is sent the phone uses 3g ...even when connected to WiFi. Quite a few apps are activating 3g to send data as well.

I am using a maxtouch ported Rom right now....I will have to check it out on stock.

Well I installed Widgetlocker (though I have yet to make a new lockscreen) and Handcent (switching that to the new SMS agent) and I was still able to send MMS. Maybe I have this thing licked.

A new issue has arisen though...when switching from Wifi back to 3G it sometimes takes a ridiculously long time for 3G to show up. This has never been an issue previous to hard resetting. Is there some setting I forgot about? As of now I have "Always on Mobile Data" unlike before that is really the only difference that I can think of. Or is it related to the all of a sudden shoddy 3G service in my apartment. I was not able to go anywhere today (14 inches of snow does that) so I was unable to check around town to see if it is better.

Whether you have good service or not, the radio itself should still turn back on once you turn off wifi. How long exactly are you saying it takes?

As of now (I just did it to test) we are at almost two minutes. I looked under settings and it still says "Turning on".

It just finally turned on at nearly 2 minutes. I turned it off and turned it back on and here we go again...

There has to be something wrong with the radio right? I mean this is crazy it has never been like this. I am not resetting this thing again 3 times in 5 days is friggin plenty. Should I maybe update the PRL back to the way it was before I did the fix? (back to 60675)

When did this start? Are you on a different PRL now? If so, how did you even switch? What was the last thing you did before this started happening? Silly question, but have you tried rebooting?

I have rebooted (when I reboot 3G starts right away).

I did the PRL fix you suggested earlier in the thread (post #8) to fix the 3G speeds. (when it rebooted I cancelled to make sure not to update the PRL as per the instructions) According to the thread you linked if I updated the PRL it would go back to the old speeds. (I noticed little to no change as of now)

This either started last night or this morning I am not exactly sure. When I turn wifi on it starts right away and after about a 10 second delay the 3G symbol in the status bar shuts off but when I turn off Wifi there is nada for multiple minutes.

Just for kicks, update PRL, and see what happens. I have a hunch. If it doesn't help, you can always go through that process again.

Ok well that is quite an improvement...just timed it and it flipped on 3G in 20 seconds as opposed to two minutes. Hopefully that is a sign that it has been normalized.

Does that confirm your hunch?

well, that typically happens if there is bad 3g service in an area...it is trying to connect to the tower. it happened to me...verified I had one tower about 1.5 miles away. It took a ridiculously long time for it to connect to it but when it did I had decent 3g. Keep in mind I wasn't switching from wifi to 3g though....I was driving to wally world lol

I have seen a few phones now that have to update prl to get the 3g working so I don't know what the difference is phone to phone and why some do better with and others without

Yeah as soon as I am not marooned at home I will trial and error in other areas being stuck inside hinders me. I will say updating the PRL didnt hurt the speed at all (may have actually helped) and I just tried an MMS and it worked perfectly. :)

Thanks guys for all the help, I know I have been difficult the last few days what with my constant issues. You guys saved me hours of agony, and probably some poor Sprint CSR from being screamed at by me when they gve me stock answers read off a script! ;)

Right, so the 3g radio might take a while to connect if you're in a bad service area, but the radio should still turn on, I would think. That, and you said if you reboot the phone it turns on right away. Like Mr. Ed said, some people need to update PRL to make things work right, while others need to make sure to cancel it. We'll figure out why eventually.

Glad everything got better. Just wanted to throw in my experience with Backing up Apps and restoring them after a Hard Reset. They will not show up in the Market. Well some might but mostly they won't. What I did find out this last time I hard reset and restored my apps is if you go to the Web version of the Android Market your apps will show in a list there and you can go through and reinstall them much quicker via the webpage. Kind of a pain but I also always find one or two apps that I am not using so no reason to reinstall.
