Help MMS network failure

RunVert

Well-Known Member
Rooted phone with stock ROM.
As of yesterday my incoming texts were working fine. Then something happened last night. someone tried to send me a short video clip and I got this message "Message not downloaded", "Generic network failure"

I have received several small video clips in the last week, but for some reason I can no longer download MMS videos?!

I am using the stock text app. I did have handscent installed, but have deleted it.

I have tried with wifi on/off, and same results. And I have rebooted the phone as well.

I did notice one thing though. When long pressing a video clip text from earlier in the week, under "view message details", it says when the text was recieved.
When I long press the video clip text message that I am getting a download error on, under "view message details", it doesnt say when it was received, it says "expires:" with the time it was sent as the expiration time.
So basically the text expires before I even check it!

Any thoughts??? this is frustrating.

mms and sms are always sent over 3g...even if wifi is on and connected.

have you been in the same location each time this has happened? how is your 3g connection quality in that location? do web pages take forever to load?

it sounds like you have a 3g issue.

bars don't indicate 3g service AT ALL lol ...that is a measurement of only cell signal.

How fast do your web pages load...speedtest.net app etc?

tower connection typically changes every 1.5-5 miles....so if you can go somewhere like 10 miles away from either of those locations and try...

you can also try clearing data and cache for messages in the manage applications menu.
that will delete all current messages though.

ahhh gotcha...

on wifi I get:
16813 kbps download speed
3820 kbps upload speed

without wifi (only 3g) I get:
A much slower response...

128 kbps download speed
213 kbps upload speed

...whats a good number to shoot for in regards to kbps speed?

download

good= 300
better=700
best=1000+

upload

good=200
better=500 (common)
best=700-800 (rare)

I had a feeling this might be the issue. You need to contact Sprint (#2) and let them know that you are having 3g connection issues.

badass wifi by the way..I rarely get above 12000. Who is your provider?
