Help Mobile Internet problems - Network or handset?

Hi all,

HTC Desire Black
Froyo 2.2
on Orange

All day my handset has been displaying 3G+, and a very good mobile signal. Whenever i've tried to e.g. check my facebook app updates, or go online with the browser, it just times out with no connection. I've tried turning the mobile connection on/off, and re-booting the phone. No change; a 3G+ signal with no apparent connection.

Only managed to get online once, when the 3G+ speeds were as good as I'd normally expect.

In addition, 3G Watchdog is displaying a usage of 7.05MB for the day, since leaving the house at 9am, so it seems that data has obviously been working well enough to sync regularly.

Just wondering, is this more likely to be a handset problem (faulty signal display) or a Network problem? I know there's been lots of online discussion about Orange/HTC not getting along well with 3G data, but I've never experienced this kind of problems with 3G+

My Orange Desire 2.2 using Go Launcher Ex has been doing the same over the last two days, but it finally got to me today when I wanted to check a store price comparison and couldn't get a connection.
I contacted Orange and they talked me through a reset of my data connection permissions and all is ok now, apparantly the settings had got 'corrupted' somehow so they were lost.. I did have a force close the other day, of which I have not had for ages..
